I understand Monica and you are being honest. Now, let me toss this on the table. Say in two years Fiat came out with a 500 that had sport suspension, twin scroll turbo, put out 300hp, top end at 175mph and MINI remained with their current numbers.

To my way of thinking, it's should be up for nomination only in that it's an interesting, fun looking car that's also garnering a lot of interest (the J-Lo fiasco notwithstanding).

I only can hope the car is made better than the previous FIATs of another generation.

 

Even if all you say is true; how does that earn it North American Car of the Year?

 

Well, I can only presume it is for all cars sold and driven in N. American, rather than "North American" made.

(on that note, are there any Canadian cars these days? )

If you look back at car of the year winners from years past you would be amazed at some of the carp that has won.... I don't disagree with the 500's nomination.

More than a couple of these make me think WTF???? :crazy:

 

Ford, GM, Toyota all have factories in Canada, but I don't know that there has ever been a strictly Canadian car company (aside from ZENN).

 

Yeah - that is what I meant. I believe there were (are?) Canadian cars...

Even tho one can say the "corporation" is headquartered in a particular country, these days, where most every car has parts made and assembled all over the world, it's hard to say that a car is truly "American" or "British", etc.

 

just saw it yesterday. The worst car commercial I have ever seen. EVER. It may appeal to a small percentage, but most prospective buyers will run away screaming. Not good business sense.

 

It wouldn't matter.... I just hate the way it looks. And I HAVE to like the way a car looks. I don't care if it goes 500mph.

For all of the buy Merican folks over here. It can not be done, most everything in this country is made somewhere else. Even the stuff here is made with parts made someplace else. The world is a smaller place these days.

 

That is the truth and over crowed as well. :frown2:

Novel concept.....might work......didn't we actually manufacture the war machine that won World War II?

Everything from tanks, jeeps, trucks, cars, airplanes of all sizes and shapes, ships all sizes and shapes, submarines, guns, artillery, ammunition, bombs, uniforms, helmets, boots, medicine, spam, etc., etc., etc....?

All built and manufactured right here in the good old USA?

 

And the Harley Davidson plant in York, Pa made torpedoes for the Navy.

Fiat debuts the "real" JLo commercial.

When Fiat-Chrysler launched a music-video-style spot featuring Jennifer Lopez for the Fiat 500, the criticism came fast and furious. The automaker, however, said the spot wasn't really a spot, but was rather a trailer for JLo's music video that the company sponsored. A real spot was forthcoming.
