That's nuts and I agree with R&T's "How aren't all these people dead?"
The only figure 8 "racing" I've ever seen was actually a demolition derby. They drove in a figure 8 and instead of trying to avoid wrecking at the intersection, that was the only place where you were allowed to try to hit other cars. They didn't count laps and the winner was the last one running.
