I followed the directions on the Ice wash and it says to spray to a foamy/suds. I didn't like it because by the time I washed the other side, there were streaks on the finished side.:incazzato: The "pink" Meguiars worked better for me as far as the streaking went, but I do like the way Ice feels....so, I may try that again using less sudsing! Thanks for the tips!!!![]()

When I first got my MINI, I stumbled into Octane Guy's video on washing cars. One of the things he points out is to not suds up the water in the wash bucket. If I remember right, by not creating suds leaves more soap in the water and ultimately between your mit and your paint.
I've never had an issue with streaking. I assume your car's waxed and your rinsing off the soap before it dries? IE, your washing and rinsing a section of the car at a time and not the whole car in one shot? -
when i wash my car in the sun (yes, potentially a big no no if you're not careful and work fast) i wash by sections and rinse off by sections. as long as there is enough wax on the paint and you dont spray the rinse water at the panels, soapy water will sheet off.
if your tap water is hard though you'd probably want to use a couple jugs of distilled
water to rinse.
basically spraying water at the car other than the initial wet-down to get as much crap
out of the nooks and crannys is, imho, a big nono.
now the suds..
the problem with suds in the washbucket is that the suds are at the top of the water and retain grit....grit needs to drop to the bottom of the bucket and separated from the cleaner soapwater by the grit-guard (basically a grill near the bottom of the bucket).
otherwise you just grab the suds and grit with your wash mitt each time and apply onto the paint...basically you're sanding your finish.<= kicked in the balls face.

placed a quick order to Griot's today for a gallon of SpeedShine (again...i go through it in about a month), the new pop-up bucket shown a page previous, that new flash light, also some new sprayheads they got now so that i can bottle up some Prima products in my Griot's bottles. Prima bottles/spray heads are too small/too drippy for me.
not to forget this new duster they are selling that uses coconut oil instead of paffarin wax.... will see how that goes.

Ya, what he said
I wash mine in the sun too, but here in CO that's most days....can't be helped unless you have tree's near your driveway which I don't. I go section by section also and make sure that when I'm rinsing off one section I rerince the others so they stay wet. Right before I dry I set my nozzle on as thick a stream as possible trying to get a sheet flow over the car. As it leaves the car it seems to pull the water away. Kind of like it's magnetic. Makes drying easier and my towels go further. -

Kensan... time to fire back up the conveyor from Griot's warehouse to your garage... hey, if that duster doesn't work, at least you can pop popcorn on your bonnet on a sunny day.

Hahaha. I have the stuff delivered to work. Whenever that white box arrives with red tape on it, everyone at work points the UPS guy my way before even looking at the label.
Anyone get anything cool for Father's Day? Post them up!. (I got something cool but it's for my music gear).

I detailed my dad's truck, it's becoming somewhat of a father's day ritual, I just wish it wasn't 106 degrees out with no shade while doing it.

yah, whenever i need to polish a car in the sun i lay some damp MF towel on the section i'll be working on. that way it will lower the panel temp by at least 15-20F just from doing that.
but honestly i would not want to polish my car in the sun cause
the polish evaporates much faster before the diminishing abrasives have a chance to breakdown. i only do it when im doing spot polishes.... ie, scuff marks on bumper, bird crappage minor etching, etc.
that's about when the Griot's 3" orbital comes in real handly.strongly recommend.

Not a detailing tool... but could be in a pinch... 8x8' (10x10' base) pop up canopy.
Not as big as I would have gotten if intended for driveway detailing use - but perfect for beach/camping/track use. -

Guys should check out Danase Detailing Supply - Quality Car Care Products .
Smaller company, but i use all his products and am extremely happy with the results. The sealant requires a couple extra coats to be extremely durable, but sealant is easy to apply.
EDIT: Ok the sites ability to change links to short descriptions is freakin cool!! -
