:cornut: That's an R50 MINI Cooper. They didn't give the mileage. Brittish Racing Green with a Black and White checkerboard top, it certainly is stylish. Do they have a record of it's maintainance? Any way, the R50 MINIs are the most dependable and trouble free of the MINIs. Many of these MINIs have upwards of 200kmi with minimal problems. One is always taking a chance with any 11yo car but with a well maintained medium high mileage R50, it should last a while if taken care of. Also, it's not to much car for a young man and your son can definately 'hold his head high with his friends' in that car. GOOD LUCK! Jason
THATS WHAT I DID! GAVE MY SON MY JUSTA FOR HIS 18TH, LOVES IT. LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO, I REALLY FILL HE IS SAFE WITH THE 6 AIR BAGS AND HIS LEARNING THE PROPER WAY TO DRIVE, ITS A GREAT CAR, GOOD LUCK.
Things I know to look out for are power steering issues, various oil leaks and this has the Midlands 5 speed which can be a weak point...
Been thinking about this MINI. When you look at it pay close attention to how the transmission & clutch feel. At that mileage the clutch may be close to the end of its life. Also the transmission is a Midlands box, not a Getrag & have been known to die at higher mileages. Hope it is a good one. :fingerscrossed: Guess I should have read Jason's post about the Midlands. Doh!
Long as y'all can work on it!. One of the best things about a first car is learning how to repair them! My first repairs were both fun and simple thanks to this
Ha. Funny. Thanks for the things to look for. I look forward to having something to work on occasionally, as long as its not often and not major. Hope to take advantage of this awesome group when I'm in a pinch. If I grab it, I'll bring it to the next Donut Munch.
Looks like it has a small oil leak. Transmission seems to be smooth. Clutch feels good. Shifts well. Has some dents and dings, broken tail light. Thoughts?
Dents and dings are nothing to worry about. The taillight/mirror can probably be sourced at a junk yard. Did the power steering feel ok?
