Just keep listening to Way. As long as there's money in your pocket, he won't steer you wrong when you're ready to spend it!
I'm looking forward to the WMW pulley myself already having the Detroit Tuned tensioner stop. The money I had set aside for the pulley might be going to new wheels, but that's another thread.
Oh, no no no! A pulley will be far more rewarding than wheels, at least any wheels that could be had for something close to the cost of a pulley and installation. If you're building a show car, get some wheels. If you want to make your car lots more fun to drive, get a pulley (and suspension, and a BSH lower engine mount...) then move on to cosmetic stuff like wheels. If you're looking at SSRs or some other lightweight wheels, that could fall into the fun-to-drive category, but one of those wheels would cost as much as a pulley with installation.
I agree with you and performance is my goal too. I just have an opportunity to get wheels that I'm not sure will come along again. As far as the pulley, I have a $125 gift card that I plan on using for a pulley. The installation will cost another $200. I may end up having to use the $125 toward the wheels, but the pulley will be the next performance mod.
The pulley mod is easily one of the most rewarding mods you can do. It's like your getting into a new car. Second for me would be the JCW steering wheel, it's what you interact with the most when driving. And third, would be the Milltek exhaust. I love driving around with the top down or windows open just listening to it. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
I agree with you and definitely plan on doing the pulley. Hoping that someone can help me get that done shortly after I buy it. Trying to decide between the 15% and the 17% at WMW. Its a daily driver, so I should probably stick to the 15%.
The 15% pulley is by far the most popular for all uses. Sure, there are some 17s out there and even some 19s (although many stopped offering the 19), but these sizes are generally considered to introduce too much additional risk.
Here's my thinking, after a lot of reading. 15% pulley makes good power, doesn't over stress the engine, by way of making too much heat. Upgraded intercooler not needed. I'm talking with Way about the JCW 380cc injectors, and then a tune.
Not to thread jack, but.................. If you are ready for the tune now, no need to wait. The GP IC will not affect the tune at all. The GP IC is somewhat better on the track, but it does sacrifice recovery times from heat soak and a little pressure loss. We are having an RMW tune party in Austin in mid Oct, see the other thread. Come on down and get that custom tune, then get the GP IC whenever you are ready and the tune will still be good.
Yes, thanks. Still hoping to get my pulley soon. Intake and exhaust do affect tune, right? I hesitated to even ask since I feel like I know the answer.
Yes because they can significantly affect the flow, as does the smaller pulley. The few degrees delta in IAT between the S and GP IC will not be significant in terms of tune parameters.
Hey all, I wanted to update this thread with my CAI install. I decided on the Dave F Hybrid intake after a lot of research on a lot of forums. I liked this intake as it uses the stock box design that does not heat sink. The intake posted some impressive numbers on the dyno as well. Here's a look: The intake is modified to accept a large round K&N filter Stock air intake Stock filter removed, ready to cut the hole into the bulkhead. The intake draws fresh air from the cowl bulkhead below the windshield. You cut a 2 3/4" hole into the bulkhead. Finished install. Impressions...throttle response has been improved, exhaust sounds better than ever, supercharger whine is down right awesome! Engine is pulling nice and hard throughout the rev band. Loving this mod Here is a link to the intake: Hybrid Induction Modified Cooper S airbox
So... but... So if your boost pressure goes down, but somehow the air flow stays the same (really?) thus not affecting the tune? Trying to understand the reasoning here...:confused5: If you're going to get a custom tune, get all the parts installed FIRST then get the tune. That would be my advice. Well, what do i know about GP IC's... I only sold a couple dozen of these and have one on my personal 06. Just my 2 cents.
It is definitely good advice to get all engine performance parts installed before a tune. However, the difference between a fully functional standard S IC and that of a GP IC is not enough to make a difference for the tune. In fact, I may get a GP IC for my car, and I would expect a little better performance on the track coupled with a little worse for the street, but I would not retune just for the GP IC, it is just not worth it. Of course....... YMMV
