You definately do not want to use oil or grease. Clean both surfaces with a degreaser before install. Post #15 in this thread is a very good writeup

Swapped out mine about a week ago...
    Got an ATI from wmw.
The removed one had not yet given me any issues, and appears to be ok, but mostly for relibility reasons i did it...my local mini guy though it might be a good idea based upon age...
On the very first start with the ATI SUPERDAMPER, we noticed the car actually idled smoother...perfectly smooth...had to look st the tach to be sure it was running...my mini was always smooth, but never perfectly so!!
My 2005 (late production 2004) had the old, heavier (and apparently more reliable damper), so i lost a bit of weight, and gained a bit of bling.
Very nice product, imo well worth the $$ from thr oem style one!!
the added smoothness is something you have to feel to believe...the custom tune helped a lot, but now this damper!! Idles like handmade blueprinted motor!! Just makes the car feel like "quality".

    P.S
When i priced the ATI damper from several vendors, prices did vary, but since the shipping cost from WMW is so reasonable, it narrowed the gap to being very small....and i was able to get a new bolt for the crank pulley...so only one shipping charge on this nonstandard bolt, that is supposed to be a onetime use item (yes, many folks do reuse it and apparently do fine).
Within an hour of ordering it, it was shipped ...actually got it FASTER with WAYMOTORWORKS standard shipping shipping that was HALF the cost of the others, and got it a day sooner.....so shipping was actally about 1/3 of sumit if i paid for the 3 day option....so was CHEAPER!!

Low price doesn't mean it's the best option.

Try and call Way or Chad or any other others if you have an issue and you purchased the item from the eBay guy that has the lowest price.

    Support those that support you.

I purchase supplies and parts from both Way and Chad and will continue to do so, but when it comes to high dollar items I shop. In this economy I personally can't afford not to.

The "newcrank bolt" that comes in the box with the ati does not fit the mini.....
Shipping from summit was 2X MORE for 4 day ups ground $24, than wmw $12 shipping...got it in 3. For 3 day air or 2 day from summit made it more $$$.
Money is tight, believe me (anybody hiring?!) but penny wise, pound foolish, or the more modern tripping over a dollar ito pick up a penny is approprite imo.
Big box stores=low price, no advise, little or no expertise
Mini vendor= about a $2 differance, tons of advise, expertise, and sometimes cheaper or faster.
    ymmv.

I just replaced mine a month or 2 ago and had no problem with the ATI supplied bolt. As far as price, advise and expertise go, I know that I saved more than $2 and have heard "customer service issues" from both mentioned stores. Guess we could go back and forth all day. Way is a good guy and deserves the "plug" though.

I have slept many times since researching and performing/documenting my crank pulley swap, but I thought that the ATI bolt was for install only... not meant to be a permanent replacement. I know of no reason why it shouldn't be the permanent fix (other than the lack of the loc-tite like coating on the OEM bolt)... just had that thought stuck in my head.
