These sticks are the cat's a$$! I absolutely love mine.

The OEM has the problem of the sinker dragging oil up the side of the tube as you pull it out. If you put it right back in and try again it will show a higher level as it picks up the oil on the side of the tube. The Craven unit uses a much more narrow sinker to stop this false reading problem.

With my GP in storage for the winter I was doing an oil change and noticed my first generation Cravenspeed dip stick was starting to look a little funky.
It has some circular crack marks going around the diameter of the dip stick right about where the bend happens in the dip stick tube.
I called Cravenspeed and they instantly agreed to send me their new style for the R53. After checking the woman on the phone said it was the reason they switched to the new style. Excellent customer service!
Now I won't worry about leaving part of the dip stick in the tube. You may want to give yours an inspection.

I do love mine, but I still find it very difficult to read the oil level with new oil in it. I often will grab the OEM to check the level, since I find it easier to see the oil.

While I agree it is a nice piece of kit. Man that's a lot of donut money for a dipstick. Glad I'm able to read oem the ones in our MINIs.

I have my craven on order be delivered on the 6th of March. Read the post of the problems with the oem sticks and I can't read mine very well so I decided to get the cool factor going early..

I'd call Cravenspeed. Maybe they can help you out.

I am not always as helpful as my reputation suggests, Crashton. I think we may have already spoken, Fatandre and I. He was right to choose a better resource than me here on Motoring Alliance.
I have a new revision of the Dipstick, and it is pretty nice. We just changed the sinker, and now it has through holes. Fatandre has an older version of the Gen1 Dipstick with Rungs or rings an no holes.
I do think it makes it easier to read, but as others in the thread have suggested it was already a nice step up. Rungs, rings or holes the idea has always been to create a spot that was clearly dipped or not so that you can tell the difference between residue and the actual oil level. The issue is with the space above the full mark and how to tell if the oil level is overfull, right? -
And Kellen is a he. Well, last time I saw him he did look like one. Who knows what has transpired since... Kellen, something you aren't telling us? -
Now that's funny. -

I had one of Cravenspeed's dipsticks on my R56 and it was a great improvement over the stock unit. Just be careful and don't burn your fingers. I only wish there was a way to have one in my new car.
I have a bunch of his parts for the F car and am satisfied with them all, but I sure wish Kellen could come up with a dipstick kit. -

But, did it ever break Chuck?? I had an "Oh S#*+" moment with the first R53 I ever looked at buying. I left the end of the dipstick in the motor and the car on the lot... I opted for one of the unbreakables shortly after I got my car.

OEM works fine for me.
I guess they won't be making an F56 dipstick.
