I have my craven on order be delivered on the 6th of March. Read the post of the problems with the oem sticks and I can't read mine very well so I decided to get the cool factor going early..
I am not always as helpful as my reputation suggests, Crashton. I think we may have already spoken, Fatandre and I. He was right to choose a better resource than me here on Motoring Alliance. I have a new revision of the Dipstick, and it is pretty nice. We just changed the sinker, and now it has through holes. Fatandre has an older version of the Gen1 Dipstick with Rungs or rings an no holes. I do think it makes it easier to read, but as others in the thread have suggested it was already a nice step up. Rungs, rings or holes the idea has always been to create a spot that was clearly dipped or not so that you can tell the difference between residue and the actual oil level. The issue is with the space above the full mark and how to tell if the oil level is overfull, right?
Yes. me and Kellen had talked and she was very helpful I was just wondering if you had any methods in reading that dipstick as I am having troubles
Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. And Kellen is a he. Well, last time I saw him he did look like one. Who knows what has transpired since... Kellen, something you aren't telling us?
Mine reads pretty nicely. One of the best purchases I've ever made for my R53. Got any oil on the stick....?
I had one of Cravenspeed's dipsticks on my R56 and it was a great improvement over the stock unit. Just be careful and don't burn your fingers. I only wish there was a way to have one in my new car. I have a bunch of his parts for the F car and am satisfied with them all, but I sure wish Kellen could come up with a dipstick kit.
But, did it ever break Chuck?? I had an "Oh S#*+" moment with the first R53 I ever looked at buying. I left the end of the dipstick in the motor and the car on the lot... I opted for one of the unbreakables shortly after I got my car.
Not going to turn this into yet another thread about how I am identifying today. You know we like to Keep Portland weird though.
I don't know if we'll retro-add a dipstick to the F56, but we have thought about an embossed logo on the top of the dipstick as a new form of 'Branding'.
Yes I did have one break Jon. Just before my MINI went out of warranty I broke it so I could have a nice new one. The new one still works to this day, at least I think it does.
I was always leery of saying how well my '07 was running or how I hadn't had a problem with one part or another, and especially mentioning that I had 129K miles on my original clutch. I just knew if I did, I would bring down the wrath of "Murphy" on my head! :frown2:
Ok. I have been driving my car for some time and its going to be nice to see if the reading is ok. I have the first gen dpstick and have been having mixed feelings about it
