I like the look of the driving lamps moved down as well, but do they have a significant negative effect on the cooling system?

I had an Alta lightbar setup with 4 Hella 500's. Two fogs which functioned using the OEM foglamp switch, and two driving lights which functioned via the high beams. It required tapping relays into the OEM wiring.

So yes, it can be done. I did not start with the OEM driving light kit, so can't comment on re-using any of those components.

    None that I ever noticed.

I'm not clear if we are talking about "fog lights" (mounted in the lower bumper) or "driving lights" (mounted in the grill)v.

As to air flow, if you look at the OEM (non-JCW type) grill you will see that only the lower two inches is open and the rest is closed. The driving lights do not block this air flow. Put on a JCW grill and you get even more air even with four driving lights.

    Light Bars

Check out what VIP Custom, VIP Custom Parts Mini, Mini Cooper, Mini Convertible, Mini Cooper S parts page , has to say about heat gain. They are located in Arizona I believe and it doesn't get much hotter than that! There are other light bars out there and as a personal recommendation I would have a new circuit added on a spare fuse location rather than mess with the OEM stuff.

You might want to check out this site too.

I have seen setups below the bumper too but I can't find the site now.

FWIW, on the bumper or below the bumper makes the lights more prone to damage by parking lot commando's.

I have the VIP four light bar (see gallery). You should run only two driving lights off one circuit. I had OEM lights prior to going to four, so I used that wiring for the two outside lights and put in the one supplied by VIP for the two inside. I also aded the JCW grill and have had no over heating problems.
