After just watching some of the Super GT race from Susuka didn't that series come to the states several years ago for a one off race? I can't remember what track they ran on but I do remember watching it. COTA maybe?
One of my favorite top speed comparisons was when Car and Driver pitted Al Holbert's 962 Porsche against Tim Richmond's NASCAR Monte Carlo in ~1987. I think they ran at Firestone's 7-mile oval at Ft. Stockton, TX. One would expect that the Porsche would run away from the taxicab, but that just wasn't the case. The Porsche topped out at 214 mph, and the Monte Carlo did 242. Car and Driver said the reason that the Porsche wasn't faster was that its high-downforce aerodynamics caused too much drag. The only aerodynamic mod they made to the flying brick was to duct tape the hood. IIRC they ran the Porsche with and without the tail extension, but there was no appreciable difference in the speed. A little useless information, but I thought some might find it interesting.

I'm thinking the GT categories are going to be the start of the racing this season. With Ford, Chevy, Aston Martin, Viper, Ferrari, BMW and Porsche all mixing it up on paper this looks to be fun.
They had one at the NASCAR race today driving around the track under a huge American flag being pulled by a truck.
The street version looks good in almost every color I've seen it in. There's a configurator now: Ford GT Supercar | Ford Sportscars | Ford.com/fordgt Have fun.
During practice today for the Long Beach GP one of the Ford GTs caught fire in the engine compartment. I think that means it has now officially joined the supercar ranks.
