Another thing I don't understand since we seem to be on a NAM bashing thread here, what's with all the "Help" thread titles?

Help! I can't read my dipstick!

    Help! my battery is dead!

Help! I have to buy tires!

Help! I can't decide what stripes to buy!

Help! Where can I get my windows tinted?

Help! How do I wash my car?

Help! I don't know how to use my key!

Help! My wheels go round when I drive!

Help! My dealer won't warrant my new clutch and I only have 127,000 miles on it!

Help! My dealer offered me a free carwash and it rained!

Help! I bought a 2003 car with 150K on it and didn't have it checked out and now it won't start and I don't have any money!

Help! My clock is running fast!

Mini Torque is a great site. It's uncensored, unfiltered. There is more GOOD info on that site than all other MINI sites combined. And the even better part is, if bad info is posted, it gets called out immediately. They tend to be a step ahead of the curve there.

I was kind of hoping MA was going to land somewhere in between NAM and MT, at least in the modification part of the forum, but it hasn't, and I don't think it ever will or even can, the way it's set up. Still like MA though.

MT is not for everyone. You need to wear your big boy pants over there; it's a niche site for hardcore modding, its not a community site like MA for example, but that's not it's purpose. Some of the funniest posts you'll ever see are over there, but if you like milk and cookies instead of vodka and hot wings it's probably not for you. If you share enough personal information over there, you might earn yourself a hat. That may sound like a good thing, but it's really not.

Just like here, stuff gets carried over from thread to thread, no big deal, it's everyone for themselves over there, it's all understood from the get go. Much to be learned there, wether it's heads, tuning, or forced induction, if you're willing and able to read between the lines.

As for other national websites, don't forget the biggest of them all--or at least for a period of time--MINI2, which sold out before NAM did. And there was an offshoot of MINI2, can't remember the name, where all the disaffected europeans went, kind of like the migration from NAM to MA. I don't even bother with MINI2 anymore, the only thing I use NAM for is the marketplace.

There is also Motoring Underground, which is heavily biased toward some and against others, not my favorite site, but for the sake of completeness....

You are aware that this forum is known as NAM-lite aren't you?

If you take NAM and reverse it you get M /A & Nathan ......

    Just saying.....

    Each site has their personality.

MT is very rough and tumble. It too started when MINI2 was sold to Vertical Scope, just like totalMINI did. This was all about 3-4 months before M/A started. MT and TM are based in the UK and have a bigger following in Europe than M/A does.

M/A is somewhat between those two personality wise. Not as hard core as MT, not as touchy freely nauseatingly sweet as TM.

Yep, sounds like the OP is a totalMINI refuge trying to make it on MT..... MT will soon win the coveted M/A ban on there too!

MT is a great site. No vendor politics with site owners and users like all other Mini sites.

    Second comment is the best.

    Really?

The thread quoted had Revolution (Jan) putting down Sprintex and all the "idiots" who bought one......

Not saying Jan's right or wrong, but in the one thread quoted there were obviously some vendor shenannigans going on already.

That thread was interesting to me on many levels. First, like any forum site there are a certain number of insiders or longtime posters who all know each other. Second, a new guy comes in guns blasting, but seems to have only very surface knowledge of what he's talking about - doesn't stop him from blasting tho. Next, he gets called out and of course doesn't have anything to fall back on but his bluster. Then the thread takes a right turn down a well worn path by a vendor - a path having nothing to do with the original posts - at least as far as what I saw in the thread quoted. It's just fascinating to me how these things can take on a life of their own.

Much like this one has! :D

(Except the vendor part I guess)

There's also some interesting phsycological things going on with the OP's desire to fit in and be worthy of belonging to the site (won't post about his car till it's forum worthy etc)

"Fascinating" he says, one eyebrow raised......

Hey Blwn, perhaps you could shed Jan some 1st hand light on Sprintex & take that thread further downhill. :D

Suddenly, it's not about NAM anymore. There simply is no need for all that anger. Check out the match. I believe it's still on-going. Evil is doin' some good refereein'!

Huh, this is the first I've heard of MiniTorque.

Besides MA, NAM and MT, what other national MINI forums are there?
