Guess you can keep that in your secret compartment with your skittles & show it to the cop when he asks you where the front plate is.

    UPDATE

Ohio Bill to Provide for Single License Plate Approved by Committee; Moves to House Floor for Vote

Legislation (H.B. 133) to require that motor vehicles display only a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle was approved by the Ohio House Transportation, Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. The bill now moves to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote by all members.

We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Ohio House of Representatives (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Support for H.B. 133

H.B. 133 would save money, conserve resources and bring Ohio in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement.

H.B. 133 would protect the design contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some fabricated and original bumpers.

DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Ohio House immediately to request their support for H.B. 133. Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at [email protected]. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

Ridding vehicles of rear license tags would also save money and conserve resources. My two tags are now more than 10 years old and I wax them, too.

I got to see the new plates this past weekend. I really like them. If we were to move back to OH I'd probably not care about using 2 since they are such a better design lol

I'm confused. the letter says he supports a "FRONT" only tag, Nathan's post says the bill is for a "REAR" only tag. So, will Ohio end up one tag, that you can put on either end?

Classic case of a politician not knowing their front from their rear?

The real reason the police want to keep front plates is it provides a perfectly flat surface to aim radar and laser guns.

All the other reasons are complete BS and I have had both NJ and NY police tell me the FOP lobby's with big $$$$ every state to keep the plates for just that reason. This happens every time a vote comes up in any state when they try to drop front plates. Yes I am in the FOP, but no I am not a police officer.

They use the same excuse every time. Tickets generate revenue for the state via ticket taxes and those taxes are used to fund other things and the police at the same time.

It's like free budget money for the state. They target speeders through the police for extra revenue. Its just like all states heavly tax car rentals, Hotels, smoking, drinking.

Philly and NYC have some of the highest taxes on the above and just this month Philly passed a $2.00 per pack tax on smokes. Thank god I quite smoking.

Even if they remove the front plate requirement they'll still be writing speed tax fines. The plate really make$ no difference as far a$ that goe$.

My wish is for the best of luck to all affected in Ohio! To be completely street legal with no front plate will be a huge comfort to be sure... Auto designers have never really effectively planned for front plates anyway and now (at least in Ohio) the plague will be irradicated. I've not run a front plate here in CA for 35+ years and have had only one fix-it ticket in that time. (The City PD officer that wrote me up last year did so as "a favor" in lieu of writing me for doing 55 in a 40 zone. What a pal.....) Anyway, with at least three cars in my rotational collection for the past 25 or so years, that's a pretty favorable ratio. Particularly so, in the always cash strapped Golden State where the cash grab continually comes at you like gunfire. Hopefully your Ohio legislation will expand to other states so more folks will benefit elsewhere as well. :beer

I've had three daily drivers since '85: an '85 GTI (16 years - an amazing car), 2001 GTI (piece of crap even heavily modified) and '05 Mini S (reminds me of my '85 except with a lot more buttons and electric motors). That's 28 years of Ohio driving without a front plate and not ticket. My Caterham does not have front plate either. I took the front plate off my wife's car way back when and within two weeks, she got a ticket. Go figure. Now we're not running a plate on her 335d and so far so good. I HATE FRONT LICENSE PLATES. I'm very encouraged that someone in Ohio wants to end the stupidity. Peace to all.
