I bought the new version of the Cravenspeed mount, and mostly I like it. I think they could have attached it to all three mounts on the back of the tach instead of just 2, and I wish it was just 1" longer to better fit the wider, new Garmins.

PM Sent. We have a longer arm that we could exchange to work better with your particular GPS.

Craven here too.. everyone loves it. Only issue I have is that it starts to oscillate at speed. Other than that it rocks my socks!

Craven W bracket here...Garmin on the left, Scangauge on the right. Works great, no vibrating.

The W bracket seems like it would be stronger, since it's attached at all 4 screws.

The tach on the R56 only has 3 screws, and the arm only attaches to 2 of them, probably so you can point it to either side.

The mount itself is well made and looks terrific tho...

    I made my own!

Craven speed graciously offered to exchange my mount for a longer one, however I felt like it should be attached to all three screws if possible, to keep it from bouncing so much on bumps and to move it a little farther out so I could read the speed readout in the bottom right corner that was currently blocked by the steering wheel. I really like the quality and finish of the Craven Speed mount, but I wondered if I could do better.......here it is, just finished today. I left it in aluminum so that it would show up better in the pics, if it works well I may go ahead and paint it black like before.

My new Garmin is a 1490T which is a wider screen than my old 660...

Looks good. Now if Garmin would move that big lumpy thing to the power source end of the cable, it would be easier to hide the cable.

My understanding is that is the FM receiver for real time traffic updates. I *suspect* they need to keep that in transmitter tower access. More so than near the power connector

Agree it would be nice to stash behind the steering column or back.

I like the craven power feed that you can run and connect with the DC line to the power feed underneath the center console.

I run my Craven to the right of the steering wheel and have non of the issues you have stated...

The range of the HD transmitter is 30 feet, so it should be able to go on the other end of a 6 foot cord.

Yeah, I just tucked it up under the lower panel and ran it over the top of the column, as you can see. I liked the other design cable better, one you didn't have to unplug every time you removed the unit. This one has the antennae for the other FM and traffic features built into the cable, so it's a lot bulkier.

Because it's such a hassle, now I just park a MINI ball cap over it to keep the heat off it and to keep it out of sight from thieves....

And here I was thinking of updating my 350 to something with a widescreen. Glad I've been wishy-washy about which one to go to. I like that older style where you didn't have to remove the plug to remove the unit.

My solution to the corner being cutoff by the steering wheel was to install a 330mm Sparco steering wheel, which brings its own set of complications to the table.

Nice job. Are you guys saying that the mount is no longer a powered type that the Garmin just clips into? I read someplace that it had a powered speaker in the mount also. Guess not,

The factory mount is not powered, if you look at my first and third pics you can see it's just a clip.....

However, it could be different on one of the higher end models - I haven't checked that on their site yet.

I think they make different mounts, for different series, and generations so you have to keep buying mounts:rolleyes5::mad2:.

The 3790T says it has a speaker in the mount.

    From the Garmin site:
    ◦nüvi 3790
◦Preloaded City Navigator® NT North America (U.S, Canada and Mexico)
    ◦Lifetime traffic¹
◦FM traffic receiver with vehicle power cable (indicated by "T" after model number on the box)
Vehicle suction cup mount with speaker²
    ◦USB cable
    ◦Dashboard disc
    ◦Quick start manual

I might try that too, I didn't want to block the cool air from the A/C vent, but maybe it's high enough that it won't. Mine's reversable, just like the CravenSpeed is.....I'm used to entering info and such with my left hand tho, using my right for steering and shiting and such.

Looks solid Minidave. You made quick work of that, you have a nice eye and some handy skills. There is always a tough balance between form and function and it looks like you made that mount sturdy without making it an eyesore.
