Looks like someone already has some spy shots. You can find more pictures here. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/02/13/mini-john-cooper-works-gp-spy-photos/#slide-7520190 Looks like the front splitter and side aero is not as big as the concept.
Since that is the concept I'd guess it will lose some stuff & have others added. I sure hope they do better than that. Even if it is a butt ugly thing people will still buy all of them.
That's what happens when you make changes not a lot of people cared for. Not knocking the car, they catered to a very small group who were in the market for such a car & then they priced it too high. I think this new one will fit that mold also & maybe more so.
This is why, as much as I tried, I generally don't post in M/A. If you hate the F56s so much why are you in the F56 area of forum at all? You all sound like a bunch of old dudes on their porch mis-remembering "the good old days" that never were and aren't coming back. I am waiting to see the actual car (sounds like New York Auto Show for the reveal) before "passing judgement". Hell, if they are as cool as the leaks purport them to be I may be one of those "dumb buyers" that gets one.
Nice to see you here Redbeard. Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's here. I don't hate F56 MINI's, although they're not my cup o tea, but no hate. Buy what pleases you, that should be the way with all things. I never consider what others will think of my car buying decisions. I buy what makes me happy you should too.
To me comparing a 1977 - 911 to a 1997 - 996 is similar to what you have comparing the Gen1 to Gen3 Mini. The earlier models of either brand are smaller in appearance with the later models reflecting design changes required by more modern crash requirements. The 991 is even larger looking than the 996 reflecting another 20 years of development. The Gen3 is unmistakable as a MINI just as the 991 is as a Porsche. A Gen1 that is in the 205 BHP area is a great car, a Gen3 with 300 BHP and 2020 amenities is even better.
Like you @Redbeard I am waiting to see. I truly hope they keep it close to the concept. I have called my dealer already. I am surprised they are making more than the first two. It is a very targeted car. What would be great is if they are making more because they will offer a hand full as track cars with all the goodies of the concept. If they did that I would find a way to get one!
That is a great comparison. IMO right now or maybe it's a bit too late, but the 996 is -was the sweet spot of P car ownership now. The older air cooled 911's are out of reach price wise compared to the 996 & the 991's are large money too. I don't hang with the P car crowd, but I haven't noticed owners of 996's getting their feelings hurt when someone is saying the older P cars are better. My friends water cooled 996, but man what a back road drive. Should have bought one 5 years ago when the market was low for them.
