Playing the part of the devils advocate, you can train pilots all you want but you can't eliminate the human factor. I recall a collision over San Diego back in the '70s that was attributed to a little 'nonsense' in the cockpit.

I'd guess the rear vision out of a vert in pretty limiting.

I think that we should make all cell devices disabled if they are moving at a high rate of speed. (Driving or Biking)
Also every car should have a front camera that records everything so we know the exact stupid person to blame for an accident. See you ran the red light and you got hit that person or they hit you = YOUR FAULT, Case dismissed.
Next the government will try and make cars go no faster that 55 or 70 MPH. UGH -
The information I have had from a car designer is that the idea is a complete non-starter due to 'latency' - the tiny time lag between what the side view cameras see and when it is displayed on a dashboard screen makes it very hard for the driver to use camera-mirrors, as the rear view is not quite 'in sync' with the front view.
It seems surprising to me that the tiny time difference would be significant, but then there has to be a reason why such a tech-y idea has never actually taken off, particularly in Japan where it would be ultra-popular.
Hell, Mini could style the dashboard screens to look like stuck-on iPhones - you know they would love to do that..... -

With all this tech people could just take a bus or train if people don't want to pay attention. People need to be reminded with a smack to the head that they driving a few tons of steel or plastic down the road at a high rate of speed that could KILL them if they don't pay 100% complete attention.
Also I hate the little round rear sensors in the bumpers they look horrible and interrupt the flow of the design. They are like car alarms no one care if they go off because everyone is on the damn phone.
Teach people to be smarter and less lazy. LOOK where you are going for God's sake.:mad2::incazzato: and get off the effing phone already. -

Electronic rear view mirror replacements
Just a coincidence this link came up on my Google News?
Or because Google is monitoring all my activity?

The longer you own cars and drive cars the more changes you will see. My first car had three on the tree and the only mod was a heater. A lot has changed since 1952 and it appears nothing is going to stop the changes.
