If I want or need 4 doors I will use our SUV. I like the car I just want 2 doors. Just think about if Mazda released a 300 + Hp Miata with 4 doors you would want the two door also. :ihih::idea::lol:
There will be plenty of twenty-somethings living in mom and dad's base- ment trying to keep up with the car payments for one of those.
I would rather have 2 doors. But the styling of the 4 door still looks good, so its not a show stopper for me. I guess the other part is I am a little put off by MINI. First they had to screw with the Prodrive rally team when clearly they could have been a top runner. Then they get some no names to drive, they lose and then they quit. What brain trust did that. Then you have all the crap MINI has been peddling with the new cars………..never mind. Ford on the other hand is doing some really cool stuff. And they didn't take a hand out from the government! Ford is not to chicken to compete world wide. I love my R53 and what Mini did stand but they have changed.
Ford steps to the plate....Here comes the pitch...Swing!! It's a solid double. Definitely not a home-run. IMHO, Ford is making a big mistake with this. This is the "entry level" RS, with a hint that more powerful versions may be coming. They pulled a Porsche, that engine is detuned. The question will be how easy will it be for independent tuners to get more power out of it easily. With the exception of the AWD, the older RS 500 looks better. I wish they would have put something eye-opening out to begin with; they're taking a huge risk with the "more may be coming later" approach. I'll wait on that, and pass on this, thank you very much. It's ok. I feel a bit letdown though, I was expecting more.
This car makes me wish I would have kept the Clubby (likely would have been paid off when the RS started showing up)....:frown2:
I think it looks good despite the four doors. One of those rare, good looking (to me) small 4-doors. My only real gripe re the look is the nose seems a bit like trying too hard to look cool....but only just a bit, looks pretty good overall.
I dont really mind the extra doors. When I had my EVO I forgot they where back there... I bet they mark the price up around $38-$40K, just because they will own the class... The WRX/STi is going the way of the old Honda Si models... They keep getting bigger heavier and more loaded down with tech gadgets that dont belong in a performance car... The EVO is dead. And there really isnt much else left in the US for AWD performance cars, unless you want all the weight and luxury stuff crammed into an Audi.
In case anyone is new to this and going by the pic in post #1, here's the version we're talking about, officially revealed this morning.
Someone needs to photo shop the pedestrian bumper thingy to body color. Just like on the new MINIs. Why do they all make it black instead of painting it body color so it like like part of the bumper and let it blend in better..
They could at least camouflage it a little better... The new Toyota Camry meets the new regs, and the crash beam sorta hides... Or the rest of the front is just that ugly!
Looks god in action though....... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy-mhyUAaqE#t=11"]All-New Focus RS H(o)oned by Ken Block - YouTube[/ame]
I heard Ken was involved in building this car...??? maybe that's a marketing thing? currently I'm not loving this car, just not aggresive enough to be road burner. In the UK there is a cult following for all RS Fords but I doubt the EVO/Impreza guys will be beating a path to Ford but saying that Ford are dipping their toe in the market and may bring something bad arse later.
I agree with that--it just doesn't look bad ass enough. The old RS was in your face relative to what was out there at the time; this one isn't as over the top aggressive compared to the ST. I suspect Ford toned it down a bit to what they could have done for the U.S. market. I still like it, and the way it looks, but I can't help feeling it could've been so much better. At least the wait is over. The only thing left is the Civic type R, shooting to be the fastest front wheel drive production car on the ring. Not the same class as the AWD Focus, but the only thing left that interests me. Of all the new hot hatches (and the now hatchless Sti), the best out of the bunch is looking like the Golf R. Except I can't stand the way it looks.
What frustrates me is the good euro and japanese cars never make here. Hopefully with the Alfa being here things will change. Back in the day US folks wouldn't be seen dead in a small car now you see plenty. Still saying that I'd like to test drive the RS.
The Alfa Spider looks awesome, finally someone other than Lotus going light. But....it's at least an 18 month wait, after you get on the list, IF you can get on the list. They aren't making many, which will be great for resale, but they're tough to get. I seriously considered it, but after reading some reviews I passed on it. Was tough though, and I may be kicking myself later. I like the hardtop too, but the Spider only gains 22 lbs, it'd be worth it...
