Look at the bright side... You could have found out when you figured out reverse was suddenly 4 speed!![]()

No, the diff was fine, it was the sheet metal diff carrier that was on wrong - the assembly would not have gone in the car......although everything bolted up to the carrier like it was meant to go there - which it was, just in reverse! :incazzato: :frown2:  :cryin: :confused5: :blush2:

Still a few issues to sort out.....I smelled gasoline, need to find out where tha's coming from, but the chief suspect at this time is the gasket under the plate on top the tank that I took off so I could check the tank for sludge - there wasn't any, but I may not have gotten it sealed up - if so some RTV will take care of it.
Brakes - we could not get the rear brakes to bleed, I have no idea why but the brake system on this car is strange, it would not surprise me to find something in one of the two - yes two - master cylinders was messed up.
Tires - these have to be at least 25 years old, and even tho they're not sun damaged or weather cracked, I don't trust them - would you?
Which leads me to wheels, some of the spokes on these are rusted, so I really should replace them too, but now we're talking some serious sheckels....
Electrical - the alternator light is on, it could be a bad relay - there's one in the system who's sole function is to turn the light off - or I might say screw it and buy a modern one-wire alternator.
Transmission - I figured out that I put the wrong oil in it all those years ago (diff oil instead of 30wt motor oil), but to get the drain plug out I have to remove part of the exhaust system. How's that for engineering?
Other than that.......
Of course, 2 days ago the weather went from a pleasant 60's to a brutal 90's plus high humididity, making it not so fun to try and work on it now.....let alone drive it - a black/black car with no A/C, very little ventilation that tends to run a bit warm anyway....
It's always sumthin with an old car..... -
Even more so with an old British car...

Yeah it is always something. But as pretty as an E Type Coupe is you can't stay mad it long.

I remember when the E type was introduced.
To me, it has always been one of the most beautiful automotive designs ever produced.
Yes, it has the typical British quirks of engineering and the wonderful Lucas "Prince of Darkness" electrical systems but it is still worth it.
Nice to see one going back on the road.
