 That should read.......... Loud pipes Saves bicyclist, pedestrians, small furry critters, large furry critters and anything else that it scares away!
"Loud pipes save lives" = LOL Saw that on the back of a Harley rider. Given he was SO concerned with safety, I'd have LOVED to ask him about his lack of sleeves, leathers... helmet... GO GNAT!
Back when I had a Harley, motorcycles weren't cool, I couldn't afford leather and you always ripped the sleeves off your cut off. Jim
I think I'm in that now... with my loud pipes on the Mini! (I'd better keep my "go gnats" to myself from now on...)
No problem Dixon. That was a "Long time ago, in a Galaxy, far, far away". Believe it or not, I actually hold a current TS clearance. Jim
It's been about 3.5 months now that I've had the car back and figured it was time for an update. In that time I've driven a little under 3000 miles, mostly to MOTD and the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. For the most part everything is honky dory. There are a few oddities thought. 1. After driving across Central Ohio via scenic type roads, hitting some biblical rain and then dryish roads again I got to the hotel ok. Ran up the street a little while later the the DSC shut it's self off, the light came on indicating DSC was off. I could not turn it back on with the switch. Restart reset it and the mile drive back to hotel after I got my stuff was uneventful. Later when going to a PittStop MINI home DSC shut it's self off again when coasting up an offramp. Again, the switch did not work. Checked codes, nothing there but the usual O2 sensor one. Drove back to hotel later. No issue. The next morning when on an empty highway I turned on the cruise control. Set the speed and it shut down. Tried again, same result. Odd I though. No DSC issue. On the way back later in the day to the aforementioned PittStop MINI home there was no DSC issue. The cruise control worked. From then on, there has not been a repeat of this issue. 2. It's time for a new laptop, this 7 year old Toshiba can barely run a cobbled together XP is having fits with Bytetronic now. Due to this I can't upload the latest file. It's just small tweaks but it would still be nice to use. All other functions seem to work fine. I may run out the Shop Day Pittstop MINI is having with Chad of Detroit Tuned and at least load the new file. 3. One persistent error code for the O2 sensor. P0030 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Need to get this checked out. Probably need a new O2 sensor. Of course it's not so easy on Gnat. With the race header the bungs are a bit further back meaning the O2 harness needs to be extended. The adage is so true in the long term as well, mods beget mods. Otherwise it runs great, is a hoot to drive and puts a smile on face almost every time.
That would make sense. It was very very wet there and then quite misty too. The next day was much dryer. Have to add check the wheel speed sensor connections to the list of little things to check out.
I used to have DSC issues whenever it rained. I squeezed some dielectric grease in the connections on all four wheels and that fixed it. I also had to trim off one of the mounting studs when I installed brake coolers. I re-oriented one of the connections so it doesn't get nearly as wet when it rains.
I suggest visiting a shop with GT1/BMW scan tool to see if the ECU/DMU is communicating properly with the DSC module. Keep this resource in mind RPM MOTORSPORT LTD. ONLINE STORE
Ran down to Cincinnati to visit with Chad during a Detroit Tuned in your City type event. Updated the tune, nothing major, just a few tweaks. Car still runs strong. Hooked up the computer to the Auto-Logic Pro version Chad has. Found that there is an issue with the right front wheel speed sensor. In fact there is an error with every revolution. It's like the sensor is missing a read every time the wheel turns. This is not causing the ABS light to be lit at this time. Looking over the sensor wheel there looks to a "smudge" in the sensor wheel. That is most likely causing it to miss one of the reading each revolution. Is it enough to warrant replacing right now...no...but it is something to keep a keen eye on. Mixed with the incredible amount of standing water I encountered in Pittsburgh that is probably why I had those issues there. These issues have not cropped up again and the MINI has been driven in the rain since. We looked over the car fairly well too, all is still in good shape.
A "smudge" on the sensor ring? Can't it be cleaned off? Isn't that a prox sensor? If so, a smudge (like grease or something) shouldn't bother it, about the only thing that should bother it is a missing tooth on the ring or some such.....to my way of thinking. And water should have no impact whatsoever, unless the sensor is bad and water can get into it and short it out. Still curious about this.....
