If I can't enjoy something the way it comes out of the box there's a good chance I won't buy it.

 

Oh I enjoyed it right out of the box. I just wanted more than the standard JCW or GP offered. :ihih::devil:

 

The Subaru guys tend to be in the "mod it until it blows up" camp. An STi with 700hp to drive on the street? But to each his own. We love our cars and like to modify them.

 

I dont really ever stop. I do about one big thing to my car a year.
This year its aero stuff. and some other stuff thats a secret
Last year was coilovers (again)
year before that was brakes.

 

It is good advice for anyone who does track days. I was taught, "When you get to the point that your car is holding you back, then make the car faster."

On my last track toy, a 1999 Miata, I primarily modded the car for safety and durability -- a roll bar, better brakes and a better radiator (the original was leaking, anyway). I did that on the advice of some seriously talented track drivers. The same guys told me to come to the track on cold, rainy days if I wanted to really learn car control.

As for my current MINI, it is my daily driver, so it is all stock. If I were to buy a new daily driver, and keep the MINI, then I'd probably do some mild performance mods, just for fun.

I had most of the mods that I was going to do to my car planned from the day I took possession, based on the wealth of information I found here. It was all about raising the efficiency while not sacrificing reliability. Thanks to the guys at Detroit Tuned and the 'tune' that Jan did at the Dragon, bringing everything together , my car is perfect for me and my driving style.
