I got Jan's (RMW) old Scangauge II. Not sure if he ever set it up completely, but what do I need to do to get accurate MAP readings. I hear about the 'subtract 14.5', but at low rpm I would have a negative number if I did this. What kind of readings should I expect to see? This may mean Jan set it up for CA. I still need to set up for DFW area in TX, so an advice would be welcome.

You should see negative numbers unless on boost. Remember the engine pulls a vacuum when not boosted.

MAP is as it reads directly from the ECU. This is ABSOLUTE pressure. Yes, values should be below atmospheric pressure (approx 14.5) at low loads, because the car is running under vacuum then.
To program it to display boost instead, do this for a first gen car:
MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Electrical :: Displaying Boost on a ScanGaugeII
And this for a second gen car:
MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Scangauge xGauge - Now display BOOST without MAP -

That's MAP, not boost.
8 psi MAP is about -6 psi boost (vacuum). -

So I think I got mine working right......when would I see the boost go positive on the Scangauge....only WOT?
I am also seeing a reading of -6.o at idle. I am at about 3500 ft elev.
