Not a great review but it is a review. Its damn fast faster than a hyper-car!! I know because he said it did the Ring in sub 8 sec. Wow that is fast!!! And he calls the rear strut brace a sway bar but hay it's the same thing right? For your pleasure, enjoy!
I care & so does Dave. Even a beat up IT car looks better in my eyes. The price kills it for me even before the looks. Although if you like it go for it.
What kills it for me is hearing the transmission shifting on the track. If no manual why couldn’t they have put a duel clutch system in it? Even the BMW SMG would have been ok. I will still go take a look at it when my dealer gets it. I do like somethings about it, like that sub 8 sec ring time. I think it took the Helmet 10 sec to do the ring. That makes me think, where is the video of the killer ring time?
BMW/ MINI made this review and invited people “New MINI fans” to review. Non-Bias options.....I think not. No individual #’s just 2020 on the dash and those horrible front flairs. No numbers on the roof.
It is a Steptronic with a mechanical locking diff. According to MINI they didn't have a manual trans. that could handle the 332 lb-ft of torque. This seems like BS to me but what do I know. That is a lot of torque. Here are two links talking about it, the first one is very short, about the Transmission, the other is Jalopnik. https://www.motor1.com/news/383855/mini-explains-jcw-gp-auto/ https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-mini-john-cooper-works-gp-is-a-ridiculous-race-1839950630 It will never be a GP1 but it still may be fun. On the video the transmission sounded like it slipped between gears. The E46 M3 with SMG will yank your head off between gears when pushed. My wife's R57 is an auto when she lets off the gas it downshifts, its kind of cool, not for me but perfect for her or anyone that can no longer work a clutch.
Gee, I'm sorry. It was just my opinion, but I guess opinions don't matter much on here anymore. I'll stick with my Gen 1s, but we are a dying/dead breed...especially to those looking for new stock.
Cool down there my friend. I don't think anyone said your opinion didn't count. Other's have just voiced their own opinion & it didn't happen match yours. Back on topic GP3 auto-box. Me I'm a shift it yourself guy, except worn out parts prevent me from doing so. I really like the DSG in my GTI & the PDK in Metalman's Cayman is great. Time will tell if the GP3 autobox is any good. Could be much worse, we could be talking about a CVT. I do believe MINI when they say the manual can't handle that torque. Remember they have to pay for the warranty when it makes expen$ive noises. All that said MINI was stupid to bring that car to market without a row your own transmission. They will lose sales due that one fact.
Well said chuck! It makes me wonder what market they are going for. I have driven the GTI with the DSG it is incredible! That in the GP would be great.
Love the color and the overall stance of the car. The wheel arches are maybe growing on me. The gigantic spoiler on the back says 'try hard'. Old-school automatic transmission is an absolute "no."
I feel a drag race is a poor way to test one car against another. Should have put them on a track. When ever I see that new GP with that dogeared wing I see this guy.
