I liked my 08 VW beetle, but promised my daughter she could have it after college graduation. While I was waiting for the new convertible beetles to come out, I had the opportunity to drive my friend's mini cooper. I changed my mind and bought a 09 Mini S with a little over 12K miles. I'm glad a got the manual trans...(gave up driving a stick long ago when we had a van to cart all the kids around). I'm very happy with this purchase. It's like no other car I've owned. Because of the low miles on a pre owned car, the color I wanted..dark silver with beautiful chrome touches and real leather seats with cold weather package...I had to compromise with the issue of the terrible radio...not an HK. I'm researching what to do...any suggestions? Also I need to change out the tires, Mini dealer said that they are cupped and also they are summer tires...this won't work in New Jersey. I'm in sticker shock with run flat tires! Overall, I love driving the mini and would get another pre owned one for my youngest daughter when she starts driving within this year.

Before hurricane sandy hit NJ..I had to drive down to the shore to my dad's home. Thank goodness I parked on high ground!!!

    Welcome to M/A!

Sounds like a nice MINI. You don't need to put those awful runflats on your car. Many more choices of regular tires & a lot cheaper too.

Yes, don't worry abut run-flat prices... don't buy them! Just get a set of regular tires.

Not sure what to say about the radio. I found my '09 radio lacked a little as well. Maybe a sub in the boot would help?

Oh, and congrats and welcome

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I did find run 17 inch run flat tires by Bridgestone..all weather and the cost was not that bad. I would have liked to get regular tires but no place to put a spare tire.

I don't have a spare... I keep a fix a flat kit in the car. Cheaper and takes up less space

Fix a flat!! I will keep that in mind for the next time! Too bad I didn't join earlier before I ordered the tires.... Maybe I can cancel order, didn't pay yet.

You can fit a VW 4-lug spare under the bootlid if you're clever... but runflats are not so bad anymore and are a good daily-driver alternative...

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm still trying to figure out how to post a photo of my mini.

You are right about the RF tires, Dixon. I bought bridgestone RFall weather tires and my local firestone place put them on. The car rides so much better! warranty 40k miles. I was told by the guy that mini tires wear faster because of the roads around here..they tend to bounce because of suspension. He said to put sandbag in trunk and tires will wear better. I wonder if all that is true?
