Hello all, first time on this site, looking to buy a mini registered as a 1968 mini, but when you look at it looks like an 80'-90' car, a friend suggested it might be a "grey market"car, the car looks too nice to be a 68, with modern gauge cluster, I think it even has ac. Car titled as 1968 Californian registration with matching paperwork. Any help is appreciated.
Welcome to M/A! I remember something about the later model mini's being brought in as older to avoid emissions standards.
:cornut: Welcome to MA. I remember reading in MC2 magazine about 'grey market' Minis being quietly slipped across the Canadian Border and worked on such that they were considered antique cars and licenseble as such. The facts of this are hazy so perhaps a more knowledgeble person will pop up. MC2 has their own Mini(as opposed to MINI) editor(Chuck Heleker) who takes/answers questions concerning any and all aspects of original Minis. Click on..........mc2magazine.com........... Jason
What help do you need? There have been a number of later model Mini's "revinned" with earlier model chassis numbers, this could be one of those..... If it has 2 piece sliding side windows it's probably an early model car, if it has A/C, fuel injection, wind up windows and an air bag, it's not.
