Awww...must be rough to be Richard Hammond. Get to drive supercars at insame speeds. Destroy buildings with Ex-Military hardware and in general get a honking lot of money to be a hoon. Hammond has complained to BBC show bosses that he is overshadowed by co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May. Hammond is upset that his two colleagues have clearly defined characters. Clarkson is famed for being the grumpy angry one, while May is the cautious, fussy old man. Thus, Hammond has told BBC executives that he is feeling like “the cute little man who had a crash†and asked them to do something about that. Now they plan to rebrand Hammond in order to stop him walking away from the show. As dailystar.co.uk related a Top Gear insider said :Richard is not happy. He feels he has been left behind a bit and doesn’t have a defined identity on the show. “Everyone knows Jeremy is the grumpy old man and James May is the old lady who drinks real ale and is a bit of a Sunday driver. But Richard reckons the only thing he is known for is the high-speed crash he had on the show which nearly killed him. He has put his life at risk for the show lots of times and feels it’s a bit unfair that he isn’t a bigger part. He has made his feelings clear to his bosses and they have promised him a bigger, more defined role. They really want to keep him happy because he is an integral part of Top Gear.†as related by the aforementioned source.
Thanks funny because that's the last thing we think of about when we think of Richard's roll on the show. . He is very funny and we actually like him the most. Weird.
As much as I like the Hamster (along with May and Clarkson) I think the show's days are numbered. They're running out of fresh ideas. Some of the banter just seems to contrived. I must say that season 7 has been really good actually (thanks Nate ) Hopefully they will do more specials with a documented road trip (or polar crossing, etc). I find those the most entertaining and unscripted
Awww, the poor little guy. I might feel sorry for him if he wasn't completely wrong. He has a recognizable identity on the show, so much so that his usual antics are pretty easily predictable IMO. Plus it seems to me if any of the three is occasionally overshadowed it's May, not Hammond. Maybe he just doesn't like his show persona and wants a new one? I also don't know why he would think he's only known for his high-speed crash. He is known for it but how often does anything remotely related to the crash come up on the show? I think either he's got some sort of personal complex about it or maybe whenever they interact with fans they ask about it. Either way it has little if anything to do with the show itself.
