I always see the F1 guys leave it attached as they remove their helmets, so I can't see why it'd be a problem other than you have to remember it's attached so you don't rip your head off!

I leave mine on till the end of the day.

I've seen local instructors just leave the HANS attached to their helmets. It's kind of awkward to take on and off, but I can't imagine how it would cause any harm.

Are you instructing in a class that has 5 or 6 point harness's?

Anyway once I looked at the helmet for a bit it's easy to remove and replace the HANS, couple of weekends ago I replaced the old quick release with the sliding tethers. When I had the quick release the attachment loops stayed on the helmet so it was easy. There is a "washer" on the helmet that must have a spring under so all you do is push it down and the tethers snap on.
Put a cool shirt system in this will be the first time to use that, it'll be nice, going to be in the 90's this weekend.
Instructors can run in any group so it'll be drive till you drop this weekend. -

I guess I don't understand the question then......I thought you couldn't wear a HANS unless you were using 5/6 point belts?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the HANS just held in place by the shoulder straps of the harness? And if you're only wearing a 3-pt belt, it wouldn't work as intended, but it'd still restrict somewhat the excessive head motion?

Held in place by mounts on your helmet.
Anyway day can short AST shock sheared on the front corner. This is the second one to do this. The could be a major problem if it happened at speed in the wrong place on track. -

I agree that the HANS is attached to the helmet, that is how it restricts the movement. But w/o a 6 point you are allowing the HANS to move around and not perform as designed. -
