I was wondering has anyone here blacked out all of their chrome? What did you do? Did you plasti dip paint everything? Replacing certain parts with black ones? I just feel the chrome is out of place on my mini. Its already 4 colors. Blue, white, black, chrome. Would prefer to have it at like 3.

Did you remove the pieces from the car or mask them off while they were on it? And when I bought my mini the previous owner had plasti dipped the wheels. it was a pita to get it off but once it start to peel it came off rather easily. Did you ever have issues where washing ur car tore into the plasti dip?

Painted some, vinyl some and covered others with molded plastic parts.

Check put my garage for everything I have blacked out.

Belt line = Detroit Tuned vinyl black out tape.
Door handles, gas cap, side scuttles = Plasti Dip (sprayed when very warm)
    Headlight rings = vinyl wraped
Inside taillights and Headlights = opened, painted and resealed and do not leak.

Good luck, have fun and happy modding.

I have blacked out the majority of the Chrome on Nelzie. I had it all done with 3M Vinyl that looks like Carbon Fiber. The results look really nice.

Wow that looks really good. Thanks for the suggestion. I am definitely leaning towards DIY with some plasti dip for handles and gas cap, ordering the new front fender blacked out S vents and then 3m vinyl tape for the trim around the windows. I haven't decided if i want to take off the badges. I am afraid the paint fade will be noticeable:frown5:
What do you guys think? Black out the chrome on the headlights? I would never take the front badge off the car either.

I have seen plastidipped badges that look alright.

Personally though, I think leaving a little bit of chrome here and there is worth it. It breaks things up "just" a tad.

Good point. I for sure will leave the badge alone. As for the headlight rings, hmmm...

Because I'm cheap and would rather spend my dosh on going faster I bought the 3M roll off Ebay and carefully cut all the trim, headlight trim, hatch handle myself. The door handles I kept chrome because the vinyl didn't look good. The Mini badges I want to replace with vinyl so I asked Prodrive to send me their vinyls from the WRC countryman which were to big for the Cooper. So I'm searching the web for badges like the chrome originals. I also replaced the grills below the windscreen with mesh like the front grill. I'm also looking to replace the side markers with the same mesh. Regarding your Mini ..I'd keep the S scoop the same body colour. Everything else I'd de-chrome.

Painted the chrome bits Chili Red to match the body (except the emblems), as well as adding the belt line blackout kit. Take a look-see in my garage...

    Good luck with your project!
