Changing the head gasket in the R56s. Here's a pic of the head.

Definitely should have dropped the subframe and motor to get to it but lesson learned.

:cornut: Interesting that we both have 08 R56's in which both of our head gaskets went out at about the same mileage, 50kmi give or take.

Head is looking good all cleaned as well as the valves looking great. Should run like new. Putting an OCC on the prevent that crap. Thinking about making my own just for the fun of it. Any suggestions? Do's and Don'ts?

Well my brother has turned out to be an extremely slow mechanic but seems like he's doing good work with the exception of losing 2 of the valve spring retainer keepers. The head looks great. Picking up the new keepers in the morning and there's a slight possibility of getting the MINI back on the road tomorrow. We shall see. Been over a month since I drove it and I'm missing the hell out of it.

Everything is back together. Running and mobile. Ran great but throwing P1120 code. Not in any list that I can find but it appears to have something to do with the throttle position sensor. Which sensor is that? (Location) Any suggestions anyone?

Does your R56S have the N14 or N18 engine?

    Sometimes Jason gets the acorn....

If you have the N14 engine there are two hall effect sensors that detect the position of the accelerator pedal (down by the firewall, behind the "go pedal").... They communicate via the ECM "Engine Control Module"....

    According to Bentley...
You need to check for fault codes and reset the ECM memory. Reset throttle plate adaption values.... "With the MINI scan tool".....
May need a trip to the dealer???
