re-aiming them got me about 5 feet more visibility, it's better, but still crap. i have some GC's laying around the house, they'll be good for a new set of headlights. LED's are outside my budget, so unless a fairy leaves them under my pillow at night, not gonna happen. I do like that 'smoked' look you have on the porker, might do that for the headlights
Better then OEM cheap HID bulbs. D2S: Osram Xenarc 66240 CBI - HID Bulbs - Components Great 35w HID fog lights cheap and work great in OEM housing which has a glass lens. DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting I run both of these and have no load or heat issues at all. Oh and I can see the road very well.
will those fog lights work decently well with the stock housings? or should i wait until i can afford glass ones to replace the plastic?
Dave, Which extra's (brackets, etc) did you get to do the DDM Tuning: HID and LED lighting 35W fog light conversion? Ray.
I've owned my 05 R53 for seven years and my 06 5 Series BMW since new. Each of my daughter and son-in-law's Beemers have the same lights. All have Xenon headlamps and have always been properly aimed. Not sure what your issue has been, but I've never experienced any aiming problems with my two and have heard nothing contrary from the kids... Are you sure the floating feature was working properly? If the mechanism were to fail, it may produce the effect you are describing.
My '06 R52 xenons were aimed too low, as were my '11 328i E90 bi-xenons. Both are great now that they're aimed the way I want.
On Dave's recommendation I got the DDM Tuning HID conversion for my wife's Focus ST for the head lights and they made a significant difference. Very easy to put in and no problems.
Not that this is an E46 forum... But I replaced the stock halogens with DEPO OEM-style projector HIDs on my daughter's car, and that was a huge improvement also.
I had an 06 R53 with Xenon and a 2013 R55 with the bi-Xenon. I felt the R53 ran right with my other MkV GTI (though the R53 benefited a fair bit from a lens cleaning after 6 years of use/ outside storage), but it is noticeably different from the R55 -- not just in the hi-beam. I don't know if aiming has changed, and I had no precieved issue with my previous aim. Still, the side by side comparison was noticeable.
finally ordered the fog lights today, 20$ cheaper on amazon than on outmotoring, and free shipping to boot...
Any one know if HID conversion kits (just the bulb and ballast type) are any good if using with a housing with a lens? (such as spyder or spec-d)
Yes and its annoying http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/off-topic-general/26869-i-am-sick-bright-lights.html
Please excuse my lighting ignorance but would a housing like this be suitable? I have 2007 R56 with halogens so my options seem limited :confused5:
