Little off topic but at the last HPDE I attended a guy and I were in the same group and we were speculating on how he could get a forward and rear video feed on his S2000. Little bit of duct tape, a iPhone, and Ipod taped between the wind deflector between the seats. Was pretty cool when he set them up on a side by side on his laptop

So yes MM and Jim he was both coming and going at the same time!

    Update: add lightness

So, I've been enjoying the heck out of the phone mount for a few days now, and I've had a chance to stare at it a lot during the commute. The carbon fiber mount is nice, but the piece connecting it to the gauge pods is aluminum. 61 grams of aluminum.

    I can do better.

And so, step one: Lay up two plies of CF on each side of a 3/16 inch balsa wood strip. In this case, I pre-cut holes in the balsa wood where the mounting holes would go, and filled those holes with a mixture of epoxy and micro-balloons during the layup (the mixture is referred to as "dry micro"). This gives a place for the screws to bind without crushing the balsa wood. Before applying the CF to the balsa wood, I wetted the balsa wood down with a wet mixture of epoxy and micro-balloons (known as wet micro) to vastly improve adhesion between the CF plies and the wood. The wet composite was placed between two sheets of release film, and the whole sandwich was put between two pieces of glass and weighted overnight, resulting in the piece below.

Next, I trimmed off the ugly stuff, and traced the original piece on the composite (no tracing in the picture):

The resulting piece weighs 18 grams (a mass difference of about 70%) and looks almost professional:

Finally, here's a shot of the assembly:

That is a great mount. How would you recommend one get started working with CF?
