A bargain at twice... er, I mean six times... the price! ObamaCare’s Cost Could Top $6 Trillion | Cato @ Liberty
It's funny that I never thought about this before, this may be a big financial opportunity for you Nate. My Uncle developed a software for managing the needs of special education students in Arizona and has since built a pretty successful business out of this. His software collects the necessary data about each student, which is easily updated by teachers and other school administrators as needed, and stores it all on a central database. This data is then redirected to the proper channels and forms for the various organizations that commonly need it, such as the board of education, state and local level benefactors and oversight committees, etc. Obviously many of use wouldn't want this data (or at least not all of it) on a centralized server, but maybe and anonymous version of the data could be stored in such a manner and it can be accessed by scanning a card and entering a PIN number, like a bank of your medical records. But a standardized software would probably help a lot in this regard.
This was so good, I had to bring it over from another thread: Nathan wrote: Hmmmmm.... gave you a nice discount.... I wonder why? Perhaps because it costs them less to work with you directly than to bill through insurance companies or Medicare, wait months for payment, have charges denied, rebill.... and because their "regular" prices are "inflated" to cover this higher cost of doing business. And you got great service because you had a DIRECT RELATIONSHIP with the provider - who now has a vested interest in your satisfaction. This is aligned with what we see with Lasik... this is a great video on the topic: reason.tv - Videos > How to Fix Health Care
I had to revisit our health care system yesterday vicariously through my wife. After she had to go see an out of network specialist (and having to incur the costs associated with it) we got to talking about switching to a better PPO. And this occurred to me: Once Obama Care is a reality, it will not be too far fetched to see Federal Government require that the doctors who receive federal funds see a certain percentage of patients from the low income segment (other side of the rail road tracks). Essentially health care busing. Which will have a net effect for those with "basic" health plans of crowded waiting rooms and longer wait times. It is therefore a reasonable conclusion that those of us who find our time to be valuable and expect a service that is a little more "premium" will choose to buy more expensive plans that will meet our needs. But, of course that is a contingency Mr. Obama is counting on: Obama Backs Cadillac Tax as Pelosi Faces Discord on Health Bill Obama Backs Cadillac Tax as Pelosi Faces Discord on Health Bill - Yahoo! News Never mind that I already paid taxes on the money I earned. Never mind that I already pay the highest sales tax in the nation (shut up DrO. I know sales tax is state and local). Now they will try to tax me because I manage to keep some of my hard earned money and might choose to spend it on better care. :mad5:
My wife and I own our own small business and CHOOSE to buy Health insurance that will be deemed a Cadillac plan, so we will pay a surcharge tax for protecting OURSELVES better... Now if the powers at be really want all of us to be better protected, then why will we be penalized under their reform for having and paying for ourselves, good health insurance? I thought the whole point was to make good healthcare more affordable for everyone, instead this could force us into having less coverage or .....even...participating in a government option....:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:
Of course the irony (I hope I am using the right word) of them calling it a Cadillac (owned by GM who not so long ago had to be bailed out by the Feds) plan is palpable.
And like Cadillac it's not that upscale.. Our understanding is that any plan with less than a $8,500.00 deductible will be considered a Cadillac plan.... And don't forget, if your employer provides health insurance for you, then they want to tax that insurance benefit as income.... Again making health insurance less affordable... This healthcare reform IS NOT about us getting better healthcare, IT IS about the government taking over and controlling one sixth of our economy, nothing more.:frown2:
How is this different than the current system. Emergency rooms are flooded with poor people because the hospital will treat them there. Emergency rooms have become the walk-in clinics for the uninsured. As a result, they are less able to treat real emergencies. Wasn't this Cadillac tax a Republican idea to get at labor unions who had negotiated premium health care into their contracts? The Unions seem to be the ones most unhappy about it. Personally, I pay Cadillac premiums for a mediocre policy because I'm self-employed and have health problems. You are already paying for health care for the uninsured. I know from an administrator that it is typical for 30% of what hospitals charge insured patients to go to pay for uninsured patients. Otherwise, the hospitals would go broke. All that is happening with this health care reform is that the hospitals will be getting that money from the government, rather than from your insurance company. One thing that may be of help to you is that more people will be required to buy insurance. So, the cost of health care will be spread over a larger group. Our actual costs may go down.
...so how much will it cost to prosecute, jail, feed and process the fines on the uninsured and then maintain the beaucracy to implement it?ut: Maybe we should make it against the law to not brush your teeth, think of the millions saved on dental care...LOL
Hmm, seems like a rather knee-jerk reaction to me. This keep the government out of everything attitude had a major role in our recent banking melt-down. From Clinton on, banking regulation was relaxed. As a result, the bankers went wild, and it cost us big time. Countries such as Japan and the Netherlands, where health insurance companies are highly regulated, have lower health care costs, and by some measurements, better health care.
yes it is a knee-jerk reaction but sometimes having a quick reflex is what keeps you from getting hurt or avoiding injury altogether...
i say nay to this...look i like to idea of heathcare for everyone but lets be serious...the dems arent willing to work on this...they are going to ram it down out throats and take the money out of our pocket...and if anyone here thinks this isnt going to cost us more in taxes your living in a rose tinted world...tax the wealthy and tanning parlors?this bill is about 1 trillion dollars...there arent enough wealthy people and business to go around to tax to put a dent in the cost so where do you think its gonna come out of....thats right our pockets...and where is this so called transparency that obama and them touted? its all nothing but closed door meetings among the dems and the only time we hear anything about it is when one of them steps out of the room plus think about this...how much will it cost to notify the uninsured they need insurance and all the other warnings and so on...just like the whole stimulus check thing....it cost a ton to print the notices that your getting a refund...then the cost to print the checks and so on i really think they need to go back and reevaluate this bill...but then again they are trying to pass this before the elections this year and the next presidental election...they prolly have a feeling that the majority they are enjoying isnt going to last...especially with the way they have been running rampant without check and essentially ticking off americans left and right...so the dems are going to pass whatever they want because they have a majority that allows them to avoid a fillibuster or any debate on it...
as for medical records take a look at the military...our records are contained on our ID cars because of a scanner code in them...swipe the card and your record comes up...just like we use our ID cards to access other parts of our recods using the smart chip imbedded in them
Pure and simple the very best and most cost efficient healthcare one can receive is when there is as few people as possible standing between you and your Doctors and caregivers... Adding the Politicians and a HUGE government beaucracy to the process will be counter productive to what we all want... The very best treatments and soltutions for what ails us at an affordable price. Just how many people do you want in the room while your receiving a prostate exam?
