I just purchased an 06 cooper and plan to change the oil myself. The person I bought it from recomended I use Cooper filters. When contacting the dealer to purchasethem, they said that there is a spring located behind the filter and care should be taken not to disturb it or I would have to buy a complete housing assembly. Is this something to be concerned with or was he just trying to get me to bring it into the dealership for my oil changes? thanks

Welcome to Motoring Alliance, thanks for joining.

You can find step by directions for a DIY Oil Change in the Library, here is the link.

There are a few aftermarket filters out there for a MINI but in the end the OEM is probably one of the best quality. Not only can you source them from the dealer there in Nashville but many of the site sponsors also carry them and often for much less.

Welcome to MA, Morristown MINI is a nice resource for the MINI OEM Filters.

I'm using the Mann ones and they seem to work just fine
