I'm a new member of this group having purchased the 2013 MCS shown below a few weeks ago. This is my first MINI, although I'm very familiar with the original "classic" (still have an original Cooper S sales brochure from circa 1967/1968). I had friends that owned them back in mid-60's when often called "shoebox" cars. I always enjoyed watching them during regional/national events when I was an SCCA turn marshal back then. Although I'd been shopping for a low mileage 1-owner 2006 MCS with manual gearbox, the reality is that nearly all are now high mileage with resulting carnage from 10+ years of use which didn't suit me. Here in AZ, nearly all newer cars are traded in for sales tax advantage (net $$ difference after trade-in allowance), so I ended up with one which was a lease turn-in the day before with under 18k miles in pristine overall condition (eligible for CPO extended warranty). As my username might imply, this MINI will strictly be for fun with no need for commuting in my retirement. Ironically, the F-150 shown next to it (MAXI vs MINI) only has 5400 miles since new nearly 2 years ago (special ordered with Raptor 6.2L motor :ihih. That truck is really too big to be practical as a local grocery-getter, so its reserved for road trips with the travel trailer. Looking forward to smiles with miles driven in the MINI.
Looks good, Welcome to M/A. Lots of good folks here, a good place to share and have some fun, bring a thick skin, since some postings may irritate. But that is M/A. Don
Welcome to M/A! The Gen 1 '06 MCSes are still around with low miles, but you have to really look for them. I bought my wife's 3 years ago and it only had just over 27k. It now has over 62k and she is enjoying every minute with it. I'm sure you will enjoy your new ride, too.
^^^ Thank you Nathan! I actually joined "the other" forum first before checking out MA. Likely many friendly folks at both places but much more activity here!
Welcome and congrats. I can perfectly relate to your acquisition strategy. You obviously did your advance homework by initially zeroing in on the '06 (many here consider the '05-'06 model years to be the epitome of MINI design) and then jumping to the '13. By that time most all of the bugs in the R56 had been discovered and worked out and the R56 LCI cars seem to be enjoying a pretty good track record. My Roadster (third MINI) is a '13 and it has been completely trouble free. Good to have you aboard.
