Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. What year and model please.
Possibly a Time Sert insert would work and Welcome to Motoring Alliance the onlyest MINI Forum you'll ever need !!
There are a few thread repair products available... I've never had a great love for the wound wire concept Heli-coil came up with.... In my shop I use a product call Keensert, that drive 4 sharp splines into the outer threaded hole which prevents the threaded insert from backing out.... I've never had a situation like yours with this product... Here is a comparison of the three leaders... Heli-Coil® | Keensert® | Keysert® | Acme | Comparing threaded inserts

thanks for replying so quickly you all she's an 06 regular cooper no turbo or super charger so even though the new helicoil drops in th existing hole it can be repaired with out buying a new head?
The hole made for the helicoil has now made it oversized for a Time-Sert to work. They do make a "Big-Sert" to address that. I've just bought the kit but have yet to correct my helicoil "repair".
