Probably has etched the clearcoat. You may be able to polish it out by hand with ScratchX or something similar. Personally, I would work it with Swirl and my random orbital with a yellow or orange pad until gone, then finish with Amigo and a white pad, then re-wax or re-seal.
I'd polish first to see if that got it... Then wet sand as a last resort.
I try not to tell other folks to wet sand, because I've seen rookies without proper instruction sand right through their paint.... Ouch

The ony step you are missing is to completely get the acid out of the etched spots. My wife andI went to a restaurant in Sausalito, CA and the valet parked my black car in the #1 spot, front and center. When we got to the car it was almost completely covered with seagull crap. When I got home I immediately washed it off and proceeded to polish it with a da, orbital buffer and then applied a sealant. The next morning I went to the garage and the etch marks were back. I spoke to an acquaintance of mine who is a professional detailed and he said that when I sealed it I sealed in the acid. The solution was to remove the sealant an coat the etched areas with a solution of water and baking soda, let it sit for 24 hours and then re-polish and seal. The spots were gone for good.
