Are you sure it was dealer installed? A dealer retrofit of speedo to navigation is extremely rare because of the very high cost (I'd guess at least $4K). Upgrading the system would also be fairly expensive (although you may be able to find used components) and requires programming by the dealer.
As for Bluetooth, your 2008 system doesn't support Bluetooth media audio through A2DP. MINI was very slow adopting technology and it wasn't available until newer models. In the meantime, you'd have to use an aftermarket Bluetooth model for this feature.

MINI upgraded the navigation system in 2011 with new electronics and higher resolution screen. I thought that's what you meant when you asked about how to "upgrade" your navigation.
If you only want to update the maps, you can purchase new DVD maps at the dealer or online for $200. You might also be able to find used and "copied" discs on eBay. -
