The tires on my 02 S have been worn out for a few months. I have not been driving it much because I have an old 88 Integra I use as a daily driver. I was planning on buying some summer high performance tires. But today my 16-year-old son was involved in a bad wreck. He was on a two-lane highway in the rain. A lady in a truck in front of him had stopped to make a left turn and he was unable to stop in time. She had her two sons in the back seat and her husband was in the passenger seat. They were unharmed, As well as my son. Both adults come to me and told that my son got out of his car and cared only about their safety. It’s been a few hours since the wreck and he still has not said a word about the car. He is only upset that he endangered others. In the morning I need to get tires for the mini so he can use it. So now I plane on buying some all season performance tires. I need to stay in about the $110 range. Does anyone have a good suggestion? Yokohama, Toyo, Bridgestone, any help would be great. Sorry for the long post. Thanks guys
:cornut: I just passed along a thank you prayer for your son and the other people and said thank you that no alcohol was involved. Jason
I'm running cooper zeon rs3a on my JCW. I like them and they are pretty close to that price. Glad your son was OK.
Thank you Jason. We also have said a payer of thanks for everyone's safety. It turned out that the people he hit are related to his best friend, and later in our conversation found we are of the same faith. It took me about 20 or 25 min. to get to him. In that time the couple had taken care of my son. I can't repay their kindness. 05r50 Thanks for the advice one of the tire stores near my house carries Cooper tires. I will give them a call.
Glad everyone is OK Conti ExtremeContact DWS They're awesome, year round. About $115-120 each at Tire Rack.
looks like it was one heck of a hit. glad everyone is ok. I run nitto neo gens they are about 80 a piece for my 15's they do well in the rain. not sure what your location is but for GA they make a good all season.
Thanks everyone. I'm about to start calling around to see what I can find. I don't know anything about the Nitto's I will check them out before I make a decision.
I second the Nitto Neo Gens, affordable and good tires for not much money, or Kuhmo Excstas......I've run both in the past with good results.
First off, glad to hear that everyone was okay. As far as tires, I'm currently running Hankook Ventus V4 ES, in 205-50-R16. They are well within your budget and have proven to be a good all-season choice. They were even satisfactory in light snow use last winter (my MINI's my only car, so it gets used every day whatever the weather).
First I really want to thank everyone that posted an answer. You were all really helpful to me. What it came down to was witch tire I could get today. I leave town tomorrow and had to have the Mini good to go for my son. And the tire I ended up with were the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport. That was all I could get in town today. But I still had to compromise. I wanted 215 40 17 but had to settle for 205 45 17. I could not believe that when I called around and asked about the different tires that all of you suggested the wait times were anywhere from a day to two weeks. Its been a long day. Had to deal with the insurance co., go sale my sons car for salvage, and find tires. From the time my son was 9 till now we have taken the Mini on countless road trips, car shows, autoX and the dragon(we don't get to go this year). He loves that Mini as mush as I do. So I know he will take care of it and enjoy driving it. Now if I could convince my wife I need a GP. :biggrin5: R53 of course!!
Those should be good tires a narrower tire will actually work better in the rain. Your son is good to go. Your son sounds like a young man with his head on straight. You should be proud of him Dad.
Glad your son and the people in the other car are okay. and you got tires. Mustang in wet conditions?
Glad all are ok, too. I agree with the post about the Nitto Neo Gens, ...same opinion, but I live in Ohio. They are, for the price, the best tires I have ever owned for daily, Dragon, and track driving.
+1 on the Cooper RS3A's. I've got them on the Countryman and for winter on Dark Helmet. Good bite and no noise.
:cornut: Love my Continental Extreme Contact also. Considering front wheel drive that 'eats' tires, they seem to last the longest on Margi (08 BRG R56 MCS/JCWm). The hardness rating on mine is 540, nice if long tire life is wanted. Jason
