    Gents,

Need some info about the U of Penn campus area if you can. My daughter is looking at grad schools and Penn is on the list.

She has accepted an offer to be a Dorm RA for this summer there but she has yet to visit and to be honest she is a small town kid and hasn't really been in a large city before.

I have no idea bout the area, but if she ends up there I may have an excuse to bring the R53 to town for a visit and then maybe a stop at Helix for some MINI love.

So, is the campus in the heart of Philly?

Should she forget about trying to keep her car with her because of parking issues?

And Dave, can your wife make her some of that awesome lasagna of hers?

I'd recommend leaving the car at home - as far as UPenn goes, it's on the west side of town in University City, not center city.

Yep, unless she's really committed to having a car with her at all times, she'll be better off without. West Philly (Where Penn is) is not kind to cars: people park using the braille method, parking ticketers are paid on commission, and the have-nots will do anything to your car if they think they can get value from it (many moons ago, i had a window broken for 9 cents that I had carelessly left on the passenger's seat. That's 1 nickel and 4 pennies).

That having been said, It's easy to get around the city and it'll be a great adventure for a non-city person. Philly is really happening right now: it's finally rising from the ashes of 20th century industrial decay.

Penn isn't directly in center city: it's in West Philly. The neighborhood is full of cool stuff to do, see and eat. Center city is a quick Uber/Cab, trolley, bus, subway ride away, and can be reached on foot in 15 minutes.

When you come in town, be sure to stop by, and we'll have all sorts of suggestions for her Philly experience.

FYI ~ I do not EVER take my car to the city of Philly unless its going to Helix.

My advice is don't take any car you care about to the city.

    Good point Eric!!
How could I have forgot about the snacks and goodies? My daughter loves sweets.

I think good things could happen if we could get Dave's wife and Metalman into a cook off thread

Look out the window before you answer the door. You never know who may show up at dinner.
