Hi all, new to this site, old to Minis.
Had a -0- options, liquid yellow, '03 R53 S that I modded too far and became a nice track weapon and horrible daily. Name it, I did it, right down to my porting of the S/C.
Now I have an '09 a R56 JCW I just bought. Dark Grey and very few options.
Took a long while to find a nearly no options JCW and one in decent shape. This is my new (to me) leasure/play vevicle.
I'm a mechanic, builder, prototype engineer, combustion enthusiast for 40 years now, not much I haven't done. I'm on quite a few sites using my same name, so if you remember me from else where, Hi!!!

    Welcome to M/A!

I only have Gen 1 MINIs, so I'll be of no help, but wanted to welcome you to our group, anyway.

    Hello
I'm new this site as well but also new to mini's. Also just bought a '10 cooper s and someone before me put the JCW tune in along with some other upgrades. keep me posted on what you end up doing to the car as I'm having a little trouble with a rough idle and a P1497 code coming up.

Well, sorry your having a tough time with yours, mine runs perfectly (for now) and I'll be doing some minor cosmetic changes and a tune and that's about it, it came with an AEM ram air, kinda neat lil lil set up.
Though, I'll be changing out the timing set soon, just to be safe. It makes no noise YET, but it will, I'm just going to treat my JCW like an Alfa and every 60k do the timing set. Though, this is my leasure time car, 60k will take some time.

How hard is it to do the timing chain and everything that comes with it? I've done belts never any chains

Welcome to M\A. Word of advice for your new MINI, change the oil early and often. You don’t have an R53 anymore.

It's not too hard. You will need to have the tool to lock the flywheel and cams. You can rent the tool. Here is the kit it comes with everything you need.

    https://www.detroittuned.com/mini-n14-timing-chain-kit/

There are several good YouTube videos of how to do it. Just make sure you use the correct torque.

If you have done dohc belts, this is doable. The kit is around 300.00 and you WILL want the cam phaser and crank positioning tool. It's kinda tight but not bad.
There are a few complete you tube vids.

Yup,well aware, thanks for the reminder. I'm also installing a catch can and filtration for the p.c.v. then I'm going to de carbonize the head, replace the front control arm bushings, ECT, freshen up a 97k JCW so I can enjoy for a long time.
The interior in near as perfect as I've seen and only a few clear coat blemishes, I hope to have him for many years.

Maybe they should call it concrete grey (gray?) or Light charcoal.
