I went to install a rear fog light on my recently purchased 2006 R53 and much to my surprise, when I took off the blank, there was a hitch hidden inside. Bonus. Anyone know the specs on the hidden hitch or where I can purchase a ball hitch (or whatever it is called)?

It is a most likely a mini-do-more hitch. You can find everything on their website.

Yeah, thats the Mini-do-more hitch. IMO DO NOT use a cargo carrier on it.... Trailer receiver, bike rack, etc. would work fine, but the weight and leverage a cargo carrier puts on the hitch is nooo good.

You could get a rear fog light, or a brake light that fits in the receiver!

Yes... The hitch mount itself just isnt stronger enough to support that much bouncing weight. Ive since taken mine off and strengthened w/ c-channel, but it still would move. I have since gotten a small utility like trailer, and it works perfect.

Thumbs up on the utility trailer idea, 1000's of miles towing with no Mini problems... you can also put LED's in the plastic "blank" that covers the hidey-hole as a rear "fog", but the OE fog is too deep....

you just need a 1 1/4" ball mount and whatever ball size the trailer tongue uses (usually 2")

most and UHaul stores sell lots of them. They could probably even set it all up for you. Home Depot also stocks some (usually the 2" ones though so its a 50/50 chance)
