Japan has many systems like this, most are simple towers that hang the cars above each other along the front and back wall.

That's a great use of technology. The system probably determines the height of the vehicle as well. With so many different types of vehicles out there height would need to be figured in the process. No door dings or theft issues. The original link just needs the extra http:// taken out of it.
