Well they *claim* it's so expensive because they use computerized and pressurized devices to literally scourge the old fluids from the system... and the machines are run by naked Swedish runway models... dressed in extinct Eastern Mountain Lion-skin coats... dipped in liquid gold...

... or, something. Sure SEEMS like it, anyway.

Cool thread! I'm not a contender though - I keep resetting the counters on mine.

Mine went to 19,000, but I've heard of ones going over 22K.

I never thought to just let it run since I reset it myself every other oil change, I'll have to try this.

I haven't looked at mine lately (I will though) but a rough estimation is more than -40,000.

My old 2006 R50 had -43,548 before I brought it in on trade...these are KMs tho...and I had 136,000+ klicks
My New 2006 R53 says I have 15,000 to go until my next service...and it has 67,000+ kms on the clock.

Resetting Service Indicator on your '02-'06 MINI Cooper & Cooper S

For those who would like to reset their service indicator, here you go.
I wanted to reset it on my '02 MCS when purchased it 1.5 years ago because it was at ~ -20K and I found this on a thread somewhere. It worked for me.

    1) Press and hold the trip button
    2) Insert key and turn to position 1
    3) Watch for RESET to appear
    4) Release the button, then press & hold it again
    5) Wait for the RESET to flash
    6) Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
    7) Service interval should then be reset to next interval

Mine is at -9500 - pretty sad compared to some of you guys.

This is good to know - I'm typing this from the waiting room of my local MINI dealer, having a popped engine mount replaced. I just asked them to reset the interval for me, so they'd better not charge me, seeing how I could have easily done it myself in 30 seconds.

Nah, just wave a dead chicken over it and pray to the engine gods. It's the "routine worship" indicator.

I am actually pretty much on top of my car as far as maintenance goes. I just never pay attention to the service warning light, MINI charges too much do do routine crap (Sorry to all the dealers out there)
