(If by "good", you're referring to an excellent DSLR, then I'd have to say either Canon or Nikon have many available options at various price points.) And welcome, by the way!!
I've been running Canon for the last ten years and very good results, at the same time I have heard nothing but good things about Nikon. I got a good deal on the first Canon and bought a couple lens' so it made sense to continue. CAUTION- Think modding a MINI is expensive? Photography can just about as nutty. Decent DSLR will run you near $600-$800 with initial lens, UV filters, Other Filters, Camera Bag, Tri-Pod etc. After that if you want to get into telephoto or macro len's they are about $400 a pop and up, way up. Results can be breathtaking and very satisfying but ask yourself if you want to get into it. I might suggest the Canon SureShot or Nikon's equivalent as a nice entry point. See if you like it and want to expand. You can trade up until your bank account bleeds!:crazy:
thanx. by "good" i meant not as expensive. dslr are great but i doubt i will get any use out of all the features. im far from a pro.
