I'm the OT...I like the looks and sound of a radar detector...it makes me giddy. :D I would never promote speeding or spirited driving. :eek6::eek::cryin: Thanks everyone for the information regarding how yours is mounted. I was hoping that someone made a mount, that I'm not aware of, that could be purchased and used much like the "below mirror mount" that doesn't work on our MINI's.

It looks like I need to fire up the CNC, design and fabricate one. I'll keep you all in the loop. :beer Until then, go on over to the M/A Store and purchase a bowling shirt :D

I used to get a least a ticket a year before I got a radar detector.
I haven't had a ticket in ten years!

I think a radar detector is really worth the money!

I also think that people who don't drive faster than the speed limit are a bunch of wussies!

All right folks. Let's all come down. To each his own. Live and let live. People in glass houses should not throw rock. Don't piss into the wind. Do not eat yellow snow. Etc. etc. etc.

I used to get a lot of tickets when I was young. Not so much as I got older. I guess I am not in as much of a hurry, or I am more discriminatory about when and where I mash the go pedal. I tried to use a radar detector back in the day. All it did was let me know a few seconds ahead of time that I was about to get a ticket.

That being said, the wife wants a Valentine One for the BMW. She will probably get it and I will probably use it.

Are you saying the one in the link won't fit the MINI?

CHKMINI has no cruise control, this I know. He needs his radar detector! Maybe we can all chip in & send him a few bucks toward the purchase of the cruise he so badly needs.

Now that's out of the way. Maybe you guys could donate some bucks to me so I can get a V1. Just in case my cruise stops working. :ihih:

OK, I read this entire thread and noticed all the suggestions were for visible mounts. I spend a lot of time in Virginia and you can NOT have one in your car, on or not, period. Doesn't anyone use a concealed mounting system?

I just did a search on the VA law and it would appear that "ANYONE" with a detector can get zapped, even out of state folks passing through. That is why the warning signs are at all border crossings.

But doesn't the unit still need to hang at or about the rear view mirror to be most effective? The concealed display just turns of the lights on the head unit and moves it to the remote unit to be placed else where.

    Or am I mistaken?

Correct, kinda. It doesn't have to be in the front. Thats why mine is here, and when not on a camera flash it is not not noticeable at all

That gives me ideas. Do you have any close ups/pics of the install?

That's about the best pic I have, sorry. Just remember if you remote the head like that be sure to use a 4 wire phone cord.

I dug around on here and some other forums for some info on some stealth action. Dr. Obnxs made mention of the FES sport plus being able to assist with this. I want to say he posted a link about it but I don't think it went into much detail on how to replicate the install.

here's a link to the FES auto page.

Contact Great Lakes Trophies & Engraving, Inc.. Yes, it is a trophy shop. the guy was suckered into making a run of mini radar mounts (work with V1 but can be easily modified for Passport.
These are similar to BlendMounts. The guy did a run of like 50 and the dude that had him make them never posted for a group buy. So if you are looking for something for a 2009-2010 cooper, give the guy a call (Ask for Ed the owner). He is looking for ~ $40 for each bracket.

I am not associated with the company, but he kinda got left holding the bag and I am planning on buying one if I can confirm that the 2009 and 2011 rear view mirrors are the same. Tell him Andrew sent ya. I looked all over the net for a bracket and found it mentioned in an old thread on another forum. This is the only machined bracket made for the Mini that I could find.

It is not stealth, but I figured I would share.
