I decided to start a vegetable garden for the first time in about 20 years. Time to relearn the tricks and techniques, but also to learn what works and what doesn't here in MD where I've not gardened before (the AF keeps you moving). I had a tomato plant in a big pot last year and learned that the local squirrels like to eat tomatoes. Who knew squirrels like to eat tomatoes?!?! Not me! I put up a fence to keep out the rabbits but I'm gonna have to think up something else for the squirrels...

Pet fur, or human hair, stuffed in the ground around plants will help with rabbits. For squirrels, you can put chicken wire around you plants.

Yeah, rabbits are easy, the squirrels are another story. I thought about chicken wire, but I have about 20 tomato and pepper plants and I'm not going to build cages for them all.....not worth the effort. The neighbor's cat likes to hunt critters my yard.....maybe I need to rent him for the summer.

Things are really starting to bud out here. Most of the trees are starting to leaf out, Lillies, Iris, and assorted perennials are coming along nicely. Only had a couple of Tulips come up, and no Crocus, guess something eat the bulbs.
Been turning beds, and spreading mulch the last few days, almost done. Then it's on to getting ready to re-sod, as the bloody Bermuda grass is taking over everything.
