There is a "How to" in the 2nd generation section of the Library that should give you an idea of how to do this.

They can be snapped off and snapped on in a couple of seconds...
Just make sure you buy the correct covers... MINI has the motorised and non motorized mirrors... They take different part numbers... -

I'm not sure if the Roadster is any different, but I've changed the mirror caps on my R53 and there are a few little tabs that hold the cap to the mirror body, which are very easy to break during removal of the old caps. I used a small pick tool and only broke one of them off. Look for the tutorial that walks you through the process before you get started in your mod project.

You can pick up a set of plastic Body trim/pry tools at Autozone or whichever vendor you use. These will help prevent damage on any trim pieces you may remove in the future too. I used this set when I changed my mirror caps.
