heh. I have to disagree. The radio is normally off and my wife is usually mulling over various maps and the Garmin in search of the perfect roads. :wink:
A company I worked for kept had an ancient VW Series 1 Passat station wagon as the pool car. VW had the idea of leaving the brake mater cylinder and servo where it was in left-hand-drive cars and having a cross shaft in front of the bulkhead from the right-hand-drive brake pedal.
The bulkhead was just soft enough that if a panicky passenger pressed really hard on the foot board, they distorted the cross shaft mounts enough to apply the brakes - not as hard as they may have wanted, but enough to persuade the driver to consider their feelings.
While gripping onto the holy crap handle....I usually say another euphemism for crap...you get the idea...
That's the REAL reason why the handles are by the door...not to make getting in and out easier.
