What would you like to know about series two MINIs?

 

My only advise is don't bother trying to wipe the smile off your face because you won't be able to.

 

Welcome! I bought my 2007 R56 S with about 57k. There were a couple surprises. Water pump started to leak. Due to plastic housing. The replacement is metal. Then after that (like a week) the thermostat housing started leaking. Replaced that. But that was it for me. My timing chain had already been replaced along with the tensioner.

Later on as preventative maintenance I replaced the Vacuum Pump, Valve cover (slight leak started), & Diverter valve.

Next on the list for me is Turbo oil feed line, and oil filter housing gaskets (I'm upgrading my turbo soon, so I might as well while I'm there).

The one other thing that has been lingering in my mind is the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump). I haven't had issues at all with mine, but they are known to go out. And recently the price for these went up about 300%, so I'm kind of kicking myself for not just replacing the part while it was "cheap".

Don't be discouraged by all that. A lot of it was me just needing something to do (I do my own work) and having money to burn I guess. I could have bought a lot more go fast parts, but you can go fast if the car isn't running :wink:.

Oh! And intake valve cleaning! If you can do it yourself, it'll save hundreds. But if you can't do it yourself, please spend the money to have someone do it for you! This not only will bring life back to the engine but can prevent pre-detonation. Which in extreme situations can be catastrophic to your engine. It can also contribute to oil consumption issues. That all being said, you have a 2007, so your carbon build up on the valves is probably hefty. I cannot stress enough to get those valves cleaned.

And make sure its cleaned using some sort of media blaster. There is no chemical that is going to completely clean the valves. There has to be some sort of abrasion.

Again, don't want to scare, merely just to inform. You can enjoy your car to the fullest if you take care of it
