Google says that 1776 has something to do with the transmission and 1777 has to do with ignition/cam timing. For 1777, start by checking your spark plugs. I don't have any idea where to begin with the transmission one.

    Welcome to MA!

You can find the codes here.

    http://www.motoringalliance.com/library/all-about-mini-coopers-17/ecu-codes-chart---2nd-generation-mini-102/

P1776 - CAN Wheel Speed Front Left Wheel, No Signal
P1777 - CAN Wheel Speed Front Right Wheel, No Signal

Try clearing them first and see if they come back. If they do it sounds like you may have a bad wheel speed sensor. Are there any other lights?

You do have a blade key it is just hidden from you. Look at your key fob there is a button on the back near the top, press it and pull. Magic. Dont feel bad my wife had her R57 for almost a year and we never knew, it wasn't till I got my R58 that I found it.
