Does it go up faster? I count almost 4 secconds to raise fully. If braking hard at speed, it needs to snap up immediately to be effective.

Of course you'd need to map speed of deployment, brake actuation pressure, braking duration, vehicle speed...or you could end up looking silly in morning rush hour...

Could you give a little more information on the build? I'm assuming you did this yourself. I'd really like to do something like this to mine!

These were the quickest option for Linear Servos that I could find. I got 6" of travel with 25lbs of lifting force. They were suppose to travel 2" per second, but proved to be a little slower. I suppose I could reduce the travel length with shorter units and change the axis for quicker action.

I cut and bent the aluminum and brackets myself. The airfoil is a Mugen unit for the Honda CR-Z. It was the shortest width that I could easily find for the cost. I pretty much designed it as I built it with some idea of how to make it work.

The actuation is a double pole NO/NC 10amp 12v relay. I wired the relay so Normally Closed was wired to the actuators for the close position. When the relay was signaled from the brake light, it would flip the poles so that Normally Open would reverse the polarity and open the actuators. Pretty simple.

Well, creeping up to the intersection near the Simeone museum, and seeing the blue blur go rolling past with airbrake pretty much deployed didn't allow for much "action" time.

I had the hatch open yesterday when I realized it would make a great air brake. Just put the actuators on it. :D
