Sadly your supposed to make a life long decision on what it is you want to do at 16-20 years old and most have no clue. Some have never even had a part-time job yet so how can they possibly know what they want to do for the rest of their life!! You grow up hearing you need to go to college so you go and take something and then once out you either can't find a job in that field, or you do and realize you don't like it so much..It's a messed up system call LIFE!!!

Wish I could help, but I agree life is too short to spend it hating your job. I worked at my last employer far too long after the ownership change. Once you find it intolerable you need to go, but do find another before you jump!

    Good luck.....

That could potentially be worse than working at Chase! I am so ready to just ship, but so far I haven't gotten a single hit. And things in my department are about to get a whole lot worse. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for my coworkers that are getting promotion, and one really deserves it. Her and I started in the dept about a month apart 5 years ago, and she has 16 years here. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of her for it.

Sadly that would be quite a pay decrease, and I'm pretty sure I would get really fat working at the North Market! Sooooo much good food there!

Apok, if you are interested in coming out East to Jersey I could see if the bank I am at has anything that would fit you. Depends on how big of a change you are looking to make right now. :)

Those benefits are what kept me going, I figured there was light at the end of the tunnel, there was and I am starting to reap some of them. I guess the big question is "was it worth it". I missed a lot of "family events", spent months away, totaling up to years in the end. I have regrets but I was/am trying to provide for the present and future.
I cant afford to live off of what I would be happy doing, and honestly I am not sure what that is to begin with, haven't really grown up yet. But what ever it is I would be at the bottom of the pecking order and there are bills to pay.

I hope you find something, something you enjoy doing. You would be what I consider one of the lucky few.

I know a number of people that work at Chase. Some love it others hate it. But from what I gather is they play the golden handcuffs game. Paying you more then you'll find else where so you stay. I use to work at a place just like that. It was worth the pay cut to get away from the abuse. Although I did have to relocate.

Sorry to hear about your job woes. As my grand dad used to say find a job your happy with and stick with it. Course that was in the days of "take care of the company and they'll take care of you". Which is long gone for the most part. Lots of people get on the hook because of retirement plans, and rightfully so. Not many places actually have them any more. Most places have a 401K plan that the company may or may not contribute partially too but that is all there is. So if you work for a place that does have a paid retirement and free or partially free medical care in retirement it is hard to quit..

Its not like that in the division I'm in, couple of us did some research and found that we are behind several other banks. But hey, they seem more worried about promoting those with nasal discoloration, read brown nosers, who are very rarely qualified to do much more than ask if you want fries with that.

Yup big companies and politics. That's I don't work for one.

Ever think about taking your skill set and shifting it in a different direction? I'll guess you in accounting of some kind. Maybe forensic accounting would be a fun change.

Anymore it helps sometimes to just send your resume to places.. Never know when someone may have just quit or got fired. It may just end up in the trash but at worst it cost you a stamp..

Not quite accounting, I'm more on the quality and audit side with some research thrown in there. I am not adverse to going in another direction and applying the skills and knowledge that I have acquired through the years to something new and interesting. One thing I always mention in an interview is that I want to be challenged, as that is the only way to grow and learn new skills and acquire new knowledge. What I do now, the best challenge they can offer me is volume of work and that is it. Then they want to wonder why I am bored with it and wont listen when I tell them that this is too easy for me and it is just below what I am capable of.
